Re: Intel DQ77KB: A Low Power LGA1155 Motherboard

Just out of curiosity, what happens when you open the end of the PCIe slot? Many cards will work with a reduced lane count, so some people just remove the little bit of plastic on the end of the slot and plug in bigger cards. There's plenty of cards that are bigger then x4 that people might want to ...

If "most" where Nippon caps, what where the rest of the caps? I'm guessing they're not bad, since there where no complaints, but it does make you wonder what they are.

Re: Silent Gaming System Build Guide

I happened to think this was an outstanding build, so no outrage or insults here. :) Most sites, even those aimed at enthusiasts and gamers, refuse to do anything more with a MITX board then set it up as an HTPC. The only thing I would bump up would be an i7-870 and the AXP-140 in the hopes that it ...

I'm always a little cautious about things which haven't made it past the subjective experience category. Fortunately, if these devices are making noise, no hardware review site is better suited to detect them then SPCR. :) Why not put the drives in the anechoic chamber, set the microphones up withou...

Re: Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus GPU Cooler

The difference in power draw is shocking. At first it looks like it scales with GPU temperature, but if that where the case the stock cooler's draw would be similar to the Gelid at 12volts. It's a real shame there's no way to measure the stock cooler's VRM temperature. To make up that 16 watt power ...

[quote="matt_garman"]I forget the exact numbers, but say 1 in X bytes. The point is, X hasn't increased proportionally with capacities, so the likelihood of bit errors has gone up. There's a few articles out there suggesting that RAID-5 is no longer sufficient given >1 TB hard drives. The gist is th...

I personally like the case I have now, Lan-Gear's mITX( my build )case, but I was considering the SG-07. In the end, the Lan-Gear is cheaper even if it doesn't come with a PSU. I was about to mention the Lan Gear too. It's got the same general layout as the SG07, but manages to be smaller. Definite...

The VRM temperatures are a little surprising. Those are easily some of the largest VRM heatsinks I've seen on a mITX board, so being the hottest board is strange. Must be all of that overvolting the board is doing. :?

You are correct in saying the SFX is mainly for OEM and in this market, mostly 80PLUS Bronze will suffice. dev, don't get so hung up on whether the CPU is running at stock or not. It's just a means to an end. It's just a source of heat. The one really interesting bit is how they managed to route the PSU hookup from the front of the case to the back. If those adapters could be used in, say, the Sugo cases you could put an ATX in the front fan spot. That would free up room for both taller CPU heatsinks and exhaust fans.
