I've replaced the fan on my 7700alcu with a nexus 120, and have great results (500RPM, inaudible, and 47C under extended load). Even stock though, the zalman fan at 5v isn't that far off the 3 nexus 120mm fans I own. If you're getting that much noise, I'd check that it's tight enough on the cpu, or ...

It sounds, or rather doesn't sound, great. The loudest thing in my system right now is the idle spin of my 2 samsung spinpoints. The 7700 is a good enough cooler that I'm able to run the nexus at 5v without any issues, which is as close to inaudible as I think any fan will ever be.

I swapped the fan on my 7700, to a Nexus 120mm. It wasn't too difficult-- it required dismantling the heatsink (a few screws), and unscrewing the old fan. Then you just need to remove the frame from the nexus, and attach it in whatever way you'd like (I drilled holes in the remenants of the nexus fr...

Haha, none taken. Nope, the case is upright. I seem to have sorted things out but moving the 120 mm fan from the exhaust to the side vent of the 3000b. I cut out some extra metal to make a hole for the fan, and mounted it blowing in. At 380mhz, the video card idles at 44C, and load goes up around 65...

You might be right about gigabytes heatpipes. It just might not like have no fan. I suppose it's nice that now I at least have a choice of what fan to use and where to put it (as opposed to an integrated one), however it's a bit frustrating. For now I'm running OK, after having overclocked the chip ...

gigabyte 6800 overclocking makes chip run cooler?

Can anyone explain this to me? I've seem mention of it around, but I haven't seen an explanation why. In my case with no fans (only cpu and PS), at the default 325 core, it idles around 70. When I overclock to 380 core, the idle temps drop to 61. Can anyone explain it? Maybe something to do with dri...

Here we go again... after some time running at lower temps (60 idle -> 68 load), my 6800 has gone up drastically in temps again. It now idles at 70C and goes up to 80 at load. Nothing changed in the system, all that I did was cut the grills on my 3000b. What gives? I've checked for dust, and there i...

Follow up: I re-arranged some cables to make a clearer path for the air, closed off some other places for air to enter the case, and blocked the non-filtered portion of the front intake in my 3000b (to allow some air to enter for hard drive cooling, but increase the pressure so more air comes in the...

I just thought about that too, so I checked. The nexus is definitely blowing out of the case. If it makes any difference, here's my system: seasonic super tornado 400W antec 3000b a64 3200+ (winchester, 30C) zalman 7700, fan replaced with nexus 120mm (running at 5v) 2xsamsung spinpoints, suspended i...

nexus fan replacement raises gpu temps 20C... advice?

Hey all, So I replaced the Antec Tri-Cool and the zalman fan in my 7700 with nexus 120mm. The results are very silent, however the temperatures in my case have gone up substantially. My gigabyte passive 6800 went from 50-55C to ~70C. I tried closing up the front intake, so most air was coming in fro...

I have a 3520. My experience is that it's very quiet at burning DVD's, and only at burning DVD's, strangely enough. Burning CD's is pretty darn loud though.

Not sure on the voltage -- I keep them about halfway down on the fanmate. I'm blown away by the nexus fans... Pretty much silent no matter what voltage I set them at! "perhaps you should have used some softer spacers to decouple it?" Yeah, I think you're right. That would've been ideal. I just got l...

7700 fan swap success

I swapped in a nexus 120mm case fan for the zalman fan on my 7700ALCU today. It wasn't so bad -- cut off the casing, then drilled some holes to screw on the mounting bracket. At first, the fan blades sat too low to the heatsink and scraped, so I added some plastic spacers (scraps from the casing) an...

Either I got really lucky, or I'm not as well attuned to the sounds... probably the latter :) . Another note- I do run the zalman at the lowest fanmate setting, if that ...

I think if it moves laterally at all, it's not tight enough... That's what mine did at first, until I installed the zalman backplate. That might not be it, but it's my best guess... Hope it helps.

Currently my 7700 is missing a fan blade (long story....) so it's out of commision for now...

I have the 7700 on an a8v deluxe, in an antec slk3000b. With the fanmate turned down, it's all but inaudible. It's definitely below the noise floor of my room/system. Even at full speed, the noise I hear is air moving, with very little mechanical grumble to it. Is it attached securely? If you don't ...

zalman 7700alcu + asus a8v deluxe... works

Just thought I'd throw a quick post out that the 7700 does fit on an a8v deluxe... zalman hasn't updated their motherboard support list yet. DIMM1 is a little obscured but the 7700 (the thing is huge!), but it's accessible.

Cheers
