yes this is the diagnostic firmware thingy. yes it creates a horribly loud buzzing sound for 30 seconds upon idle. no it doesnt have a silent mode, and it is very annoying. The good part? This noise seems to dissapear after about a month or two of use. My drive doesn't even do it anymore (but maybe ...

Re: couple of things
Am I correct in assuming that fans must be connected to the motherboard for this to work though? If so your limited by the mobo's capacity. Thats correct, software cooling in windows will be limited by the number of 3-pin motherboard connectors you have that are capable of changing their voltage . ...

couple of things
1) Note that these fans don't have a third rpm monitoring wire - so you can't control them by using software (speedfan, etc). Best bet would be to either get a simple fan controller or an adapter that feeds it with 7V directly. actually you can control them fine but cannot monitor their RPM. all of ...

davids welcome to spcr. a silent PC is truely an awesome thing, once you have one you will not be able to bear any clunky noisy PC again. however the problem with making your PC silent is that there is always be a component which will be the loudest in your case. for example, I used to have loud, cr...

First I'd like to say this thread is a good idea. The first time I heard my mobo squealing and whining I was quite alarmed. I thought my processor was making a sound. I was like... WTF? Processors don't make sounds. Later I found out it was the ring with the copper coils around it. Fortunately this ...

Re: Quick Review: Thermaltake Fanless Heatpipe VGA Cooler
On extended gaming, the sink gets even hotter to the point that it starts to hurt slightly if you touch it any more than 5 sec. Not hot enough to produce an "ouch" though. Sorry, not a very scientific measurement but without proper tools, this is the best explanation I can manage. I just thought yo...

*opens side of case door* okay check this out: the sides of the zalman MFC-1 unit are completely flush with the bay drive. so technically, I think it can be pushed back as far as you want. what you need to do is to LOOK at the rails on your 5.25 bay. Most have about 1/2-3/4 inch of variable travel w...

7200.7 : Recommended on This site, but doesn't earn mine.
Okay, this will be a short post. I see there are a few 7200.7 complaints already referring to the SATA Barracuda V drives, however mine is very specific. There is an irritating diagnostic buzz that is emitted from this drive after maybe 30s of idle. It is lounder than anything in my entire case. So ...

ok, I just tried this out in series so I can report on how it kind of works: First, the problem I didn't realize is that when you wire them in series, both of the fans have to be synchronized so the current passes through the circuit. This means it is has to be manually started.. thus it was a huge ...

thanks alot guys, i do have the zalman rheobus (similar to sunbeam) which controlls 2 entry and 2 exit fans and lights, but i would like certain functions to be completely software controlled by speedfan which is why I asked about this. i also appreciate the suggestion of auto-regulating hardware co...

using 3pin mobo headers for multiple fans
hi, fan geeks I need you :D Is it a good idea to wire 2 or 3 fans off of a single 3pin mobo fan header. I have heard these are rated up to .3a and since I only use 80mm L1A's (.1a, and very small watts), I want to wire up 2 of them to 1 controller so they can be controlled by speedfan. Is this safe ...
