i doubt using only those 4 screws to transfer heat to a heatsink would be sufficient. but if you cant take off the plastic, i have had success by just placing the hdds at the bottom of the case and having a 5v blow over them.

good luck

forgot to mention that when i suspended them, i also stuck on a panaflo behind the drive. the easiest place for me to mount it was on the psu, so i was hoping to pull the heated air away and out through the psu. it was a good 2 inches or so away from the back of the drive so i guess it wasnt too eff...

no more maxtor whine!

i suspended my maxtor in one of the 5.25 bays, but was diappointed that it had little or no effect on the whine. since i had some extra melamine foam, i fitted a peice to cover up the front bays. now the highpicted whine is basically gone. i can barely tell if the maxtor is sleeping or not and its a...

if your card is overheating.. youll probably see visual glitches in games or it might just crash.

i dunno about going passive, but a few of us with leadtek's geforce have mounted 80mm panaflos instead of the stock fan. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=4107&highlight= only downside is that youll probably lose a pci slot (actually you wont get to look at that heatsink anymore). but...

is there any trick to getting the most out of this stuff? i just wiped off the stock compound that came with the slk800 and replaced it with ceramique from arctic silver. after about 48 hours, temps actually rose by about 4C on both idle and load temps. their website says the stuff takes only 12 hou...

the fiberglass covering gives the foam an outer shell for support. without it, the thing would be kinda limp. i dont think the fiberglass has any sound absorbing properties, but i could be wrong.

i have my generic 400 watt psu fan running with a 7v panaflo L1A. so far there have been no problems. i usually leave my computer on 24/7 and switched fans about 4 months ago. the only difference i notice is the air coming out of the psu is a bit warmer. i have no way of monitoring psu temps.
