Re: What's the best computer you can find for FREE?

The best free computer I got was a Core 2 Duo notebook at 2ghz, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB drive, and Windows 7 x64. It had a busted screen that I tried to repair but gave up on. Instead I ended up pulling the screen off which made it into a keyboard with a computer in it. I hooked up an external 24" monit...

Re: AMD Trinity: A10-5800K & A8-5600K 2nd Gen APUs

Thank you for the KG link comparing the chip against a similarly priced i3 and a high end discrete card. On some other forums there's a good # of people who keep saying that the A10 is not suitable for budget gaming with a discrete card and the only value is the GPU in it. But that KG review showed ...

Re: ZOTAC GeForce GT 640 ZONE Edition Fanless GPU

RAM sells video cards. That's why the low end cards feature a lot of RAM, then as you step up to real gaming cards such as the 7770 you drop back down to 1GB. I can't tell you how many times a friend tells me about how he got a full 2GB of RAM on his video card for me to find out it is something lik...

Re: My GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3 won't drop the voltage at idle

Ok, so I finally got my board to drop the voltage at idle. I had to set the voltage to normal, set the offset to 0, set the voltage leveling to preset 5, and had to use auto for the power saving features rather than enabled. It was like a puzzle getting it to work. I'm on the latest BIOS. Can't reme...

Re: low-budget HTPC

The graphics in the Pentiums and Celerons is Intel HD1000 graphics which lack the post processing features of HD2000 and HD3000. That may not matter to you much, but do understand that a Celeron won't display the same picture as an i3.

My GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3 won't drop the voltage at idle

So my cheap GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3(R2.0) from the Micro Center deal won't drop the voltage back down when idling if I overclock the CPU. If I leave everything on Auto and simply raise the turbo frequencies, the board applies an automatic overvolt to 1.35V and that voltage won't drop when idle. The CPU...

A Venture Capitalist is at the top of his game and he was the CEO which means he managed the business rather than did the majority of the leg work on picking companies to i...

This isn't really what you are asking, but other viewers of this thread may be interested to know that the new 7XXX series 28nm AMD Radeon graphics cards go into a long idle mode when the monitor is turned off and use less than 3W. Some 6XXX series cards are relabled as 7XXX series cards and don't h...

The Celerons don't have the hardware post processing features of the i3 chips. Yes, they have decode, but lack the image post processing. I'd go with an i3.
