It's almost certainly the drive motors. My Samsung SpinPoints are soft-mounted, and when I put a finger on one I can feel it vibrating, but can't hear them. As others have said, it's almost certainly your hard drives. How far away from the case was the microphone when you made the recording? The reason I ask is that the 120 Hz spike that you're seeing will probably be much more pronounced in a near-field recording than one from your operating position....

The noise picked up by the SM57 is from electromagnetic interference. I can't really hear it though when the mic is three feet away from the PSU.

There is an option in SpeedFan that says "set fans to 100% on program exit." Can anyone explain to me how my computer manages to hold the fan settings after the program has closed out?

Two of those will work as long as you cut the tach wire on one and the two that carry the voltage on the other.

I'm not sure what the effect would be if two tach wires were routed to the same header.
