Re: Windows 8: what do you think about it?

Haven't really looked into win8, but i suspect the general response is somewhat less enthusiastic than this.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! Anyway, a quiet HDD + the quiet drive + decoupling it from the case = pretty damn quiet. I haven't even bothered with these things anymore, just a WD Green lying on some foam inside the case. Then again i am less obsessed with reducing noise now than what... f...

I got a Miele as my dishwasher. I've only heard good things about them. About the same price as a German made Bosch. And the separate tray at the top for spoons and forks and such is really nice. Much better than the basket thingie. Mieles patent for it expired in recent years though and some better...

Nachos are nice. Or hot salsa is to be more precise. But not without nachos. Kind of difficult to eat though as my cat likes to fall asleep with her head on my arm.. :P

A shroud is good if you have room for it. Reduces backpressure so you can run the fans slower or have better cooling at the same rpm. might make it easier to decouple the fans too. Plenty of ways to do that in the fans section. I usually use weather stripping and zipties, easy and works well and is ...

A company wanted me to take apart dozens of old computers and monitors for recycling, including destroying the HDDs. I ripped away the PCB, opened them up, took out the platters and drilled some holes in them and bent them like tacos, and then i hammered the PCBs for good measure.

The fins would be pralallel so they might touch but shoiuld work fine. I just unscrewed the baseplate from the stock cooler. Cools the memory and VRMs, and works perfectly fine and fits under the accelero.

No, it's not possible to run the S1 fanless on a 4870. I've tried. If you have casefans nearby, maybe. Just don't open the case with the system running..

Bad? Not as good as the S1 with a 120mm fan hardly qualifies as bad. About on par with the Twin Turbo is good enough. And slimmer than the TT if im not mistaken. I had to severely bend the S1 to fit in my case, and with a 120mm fan its twice the thickness of the Musashi, and i have a card in the slo...

I also run mine with an Accelero S1 rev.2. Works fine with a fan blowing on it. I also unscrewed the VRM / Memory cooling plate from the stock cooler and left that to cool them, work much better than those stick on tiny heatsinks that comes with aftermarket coolers.

You don't have to "sugar-coat" anything, but being polite would be welcome, it is possible to be firm and strict while being polite. I have a HD4870, and an ASUS P5Q mobo with the integrated Realtek ALC1200 thingie. Out of the box, sound over HDMI worked perfect. D12SL is a Yate Loon product number which Nexus just happens to use, common practice with fans of most brands. If nexus decides to call all their fans the Nexus D12SL they can do so and it would not be lying in any way. Misleading perhaps, but only for a tiny percentage of their customers who have a...

I just checked the official Yate Loon site, and the D12SL is supposed to run at 1350rpm. I think there was some discussion about his when the Nexus fans first appeared. So even the stock nexus fan is a custom D12SL. Direct links don't work, bu you can find the specs here
