The LG supports DVD-RAM. It's pretty much a dead standard, I think LG is the only drive that still supports it. Anyways, I've never USED DVD-RAM before, so I can't comment on it, but it doesn't seem like something I'd need. Everything else (burn speed, quality, compatibility) goes to the NEC though.

I'd go with plain old dynamat-like material. It'll just be a plain black sheet, and it'll look as good as you can cut it. But ALL absorbsion materials convert the vibrations/sound to heat. It's how energy works.

Skip the Aopen burner, get either an NEC (if you burn -R and +R mixed) or a BenQ (if you just burn +R). The NEC I know for a fact is silent when burning at full speed, I've never dealt with the BenQ though. Both are a lot better than the Aopen, though.
