Help to a quieter Fusion/NSK2400 HTPC
Hi all, I just build a HTPC but found it too loud. Here's my current setup (shown below): Case: Antec Fusion CPU: C2D E6400 MB: Asus P5B-VM HS: Zalman 7700 AlCu (Stock fan, lowest setting on fanmate) Case fan: Rear removed, front at LOW HD: WD3200KS http://people.csail.mit.edu/addy/fusion.jpg As see...

jaganath: thanks for the reply. No i am not expecting the large drive to be very quiet (but i do need the size), but what i am comparing it to, is 2 maxtor DM9, giving a same total number of 4 platters, and also at 7200rpm, and they are no samsungs. Really the problem is AAM. With my 2 DM9 running i...

500GB 7200.9 loud seek!!
Not having done my homework, i didn't know about the AAM issue of seagate, and bought the new 7200.9 500GB. While the idle noise is reasonable, the seek noise is super-annoying, it is much louder than the 2x DM9 i am replacing, and i can even hear the seeks over regular TV sound! Notice all my drive...

On my current system i switched from the 7000AlCU at 5V to Ninja w/Nexus at 12V. The load temp (2xPrime95) goes from 60C to 49C at stock speed, and I can't be happier. This allows me to OC my system to 2.4G @ 1.35V. Now my load temp is around 55C. (All numbers are recorded at about 24C ambient) Do n...

Dual Core Power Consumption - Intel vs AMD
I am just wondering about this out of curiosity. From various reviews i saw on the web, the power consumption at full load of the intel dual core SYSTEM is more than 100W higher than the athlon X2 counterpart. Why is the difference so big, provided the TDP of the processors are only 20W apart? (110W...

Now that i have reseated the heatsink and the temp stay the same (23C ambient, 59-60C for 2 instances of prime95, w/ 7000AlCu at 5V, and 54-55C for 12V), i am considering several options: 1. Better heatsink: Ninja or XP-120, probably with a nexus at 12V. If i simply plug it the numbers from the revi...

Thanks for everyone's reply! Mari0-Br0s: I am running it stock right now, and software monitor reports 1.3V, and i do not overclock atm because of the already high temp. I saw that you also run a similar setup but with the P180 (and what heatsink?), what's ur temp like? Shadowknight: I believe the h...

X2 4400+ too hot!
I am excited to install my new X2 4400+ today, but the cpu temp is too high for me to feel safe. I am wondering if there's something that i did wrong, or if i was expecting too much from my case + heatsink + airflow setup etc. Before i installed the X2, i had a winchester 3200+, at ambient temperaut...

I am pleasantly surprised to learn about the AtiTool. It supports dynamic fan control, which basically means i can set the stock fan to run at 15% speed when i am not playing games, and practically it's nearly inaudible. It's really nice to have the fan only work as hard as it needs to. So my questi...

i see.. i thought the temperature comes straight from the CPU and was expecting reasonable comparison. Anyway, what do u think the error of the temperature would be? +- 5C? And is my 37C/46C idle/load temperature in good shape for my setup? If i were to get some thermal probe, would it help improvin...

Winnie 3200+ Temps(Asus A8N-SLI vs Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9)
Hi, I am upgrading my system to AMD64, and I have tried two motherboards so far which give me significantly temperature. My current config: AMD Winchester 3200+, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, ATI X800XL, 2x512MB Kingston. Antec Sonata, Nexus 120mm on HD cage, Stock case fan, stock PSU, NB47J on nforce4 chips...

Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9 Sensors
I just got the gigabyte K8N Ultra-9 board last week, but i am confused about the temperature sensors. First of all, in the software EasyTune5 that comes with the MB, i can only see the CPU temperature, and it's about 30 idle and 40 peak. It does not show any other temperatures. I then used MBM5 to l...

A related question: Do you think the PSU squealing are correlated with potential PSU failure? For the past 2 days I run Prime95 to test the system stability, and i have blue screens of DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION several time. As my memory come from previous system and ...

Thanks for the reply. I am still surprised that the 'whine' is so bad. It's really unbearable. I thought i know what coil whine sounds like, but the one i have is 10 times worse than i ever encountered. Anyway, i have tried unplugging everything except the MB + CPU + HD, (X800XL removed), but the sq...

Help! My Sonata PSU squealing!
I swap out my old P4 2.4C with P4P800 with AMD MB+CPU today, in my Antec Sonata. However, once i turn on the machine with the new MB + CPU + Gfx card, there is a super loud high-pitch buzz. I try my best to localize it and i think it's coming from the PSU (I'm 80% sure). Do you think my PSU is dying...

I've got the Nexus 120mm Quiet Fan, but i can't figure out a way to mount it to the HD cage of the Sonata. There seems to be no screw thread on the fan..
