crazy looking. very tall (100mm!) and heavy (580g!). Installation would pose some a difficulties. I mean the Thermalright SLK-800 is 75g lighter and I thought it was heavy. FrostyTech has a review in the works. if you're german theres a review: http://www.tuningtotal.de/?page=tests/aero102/index_01 ...

Thermalright SLK-700
My search reveals no discussion about the SLK-700. Is this HS on the SPCR map, or am I lost?

I'll back up the Asus, I've been using them for years. Once in a while I try Abit or such and I always return to Asus. Good layout, documentation and value. Both the A7N8X and A7V8X series are solid. The A7V8X-X has spdif right on the motherboard. If you don't need firewire or s-ata you won't need t...

this can be done with active usb extention cables. they usually come in 16 feet lengths, ~$15. I'm not sure if any/all usb hubs are 'active'.

Apple Mac G5 Quiet?
Much fuss is being made about the new Mac G5, and noise is a particular issue. The G4 is about the loudest pc I've even heard (at least 5 fans from 40-120mm running at full speed) and made for a big issue in the mac community. Apple headline on their G5 page : Designed for whisper-quiet operation an...

Re: Noise Cancellation Experts? Have PC Muffler Idea-need h
By the way, if someone could design and manufacture a stand-alone "Active Noise Cancellation Box" with a little speaker (Like Bose does with headphones) that would fit inside a computer case, They'd take over the Silent Computer Market in a flash! That way, we could put a Tornado or Volcano 9 in ou...

I was very careful prying it off, a knife would work fine. I imagine they are all a little different. I used a screwdriver for a little leverage, wedging in from all sides to crack the seal. Took some time to remove the epoxy residue from the chip, i used a plastic scraper (like a credit card) and a...

ATI Fan replaced with Zalman NB32
Working on a friends P3, I found this ATI video card with a nasty fan on it. As the pictures explain, it was badly clogged up with dust, but after cleaning it of course still whined like mad, and removing it produced far too much heat to run without (that aluminum piece being basically a fan-holder,...

Alistair's New Mothership
This new configuration is somewhat a result of this thread: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=5056 which caused me to replace my hot AMD 2000+ Palamino with a 2500 Barton thanks to the good suggestions there. At the same time, i decided to replace my case and clean things up a bit. He...

48c is just lovely, no problem to run your chip at this temperature. But if you'd like lower temperatures, don't get it from the sides, bring it from the bottom front and direct it through to the rear, running overtop the cpu. Treat air like water, pull the cold air through and out the back. Sounds ...

There are a few available, nothing I have seen is too good. I would look for air filters in the heating/air conditioning section of the hardware store, that stuff is light and pourous but allows for a lot of air, oppose to something tightly woven like hosiery. Anything will impede airflow, especiall...

http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/products/model_dimen_open_2_dimen_xps.htm#tabtop if this is the desktop you are refering to, those look like 40mm fans in a very similar designed psu which is in the top of the very loud Apple G4's. certainly not designed for silence. regardless, seperating the PSU from...

Re: Skived/Thin-fin heatsinks... and dust...
how well will it perform a year from now, when dust has filled in all those little rough spots and created a thin insulating barrier between the airflow and the heatsink? Are you going to go in and brush all that dust out of those deep, tiny crevices by hand, to keep it running efficiently? if you ...

He's in Canada?! That must stink, no access to good retailers! How can mail-order be considered "good access"? I'd rather walk a few blocks to my local shop.
