Thanks for the response; I understand.

Re: Lian Li PC-Q18: The Perfect Mini Server Case?

I'm sure it's just the pictures and/or my view, but I'm concerned as to which power supplies can even be used in this case. All machines I've build in the past 2 years have used the Seasonic ss-400, so no fan problems (take advantage of all those case fans!). But I can't see if it will fit with powe...

Re: HP's new Neo (12W TDP) based microserver (with HW decodi

Hi Mike, I certainly appreciate you rapid reply. I think I will start this project (new copy of WHS 2011, you know.) I could use a hardware controller (do have Fan Mates setting around), but based on your review results, I thought I'd just use a good quality (above) fan fixed in the 800-1000 rpm ran...

Re: HP's new Neo (12W TDP) based microserver (with HW decodi

Hi all, My question is did vlrnmz (or anyone else) find any problem using a 3-wire fan? I'd like to build this with a Noctua or Scythe fan that is non-PWM. Reading Mike's review, there seems no advantage with a PWM fan. My plan would be to use the HP connector and simply not have the control wire in...

I asked about this because a few years ago ( when I got my 3750AMB case) I put a panaflo 12L on the mobo header and blew the header as soon as I powered up - The board was an Asus P4B266SE 400FSB P4 board with a 2.0 northwood . I checked the Manual for the M2N32-SLI that I am using now , it does no...

Why the jokes about the frog???

Hello Mike, Nice review on the cards - it's good to read about something I wouldn't consider using once in awhile (too noisy!). But on that topic, you are very careful to give quanitative numbers in all the tables in the review. So, as an engineer, I was wondering - given the good sound measuring eq...

Re: Not as impressed as everyone else

I don't know who "us" is, but I'd say a system with 4 HDDs is not modern at all; it's downright primitive. With the drive capacities we have now and so many options for external storage, why in the world would you load up so many noisemakers and heaters in one PC? Gee, "primitive" isn't what I'd us...

Not as impressed as everyone else

Nice supply. I'd purchase 10 of the 425's in a minute if they had a reasonable cable system. Only 3 sata just doesn't make for a useful system for us. Since a modern system with one video card and 4 drives (that needs a max of 200w) is not uncommon, why do they lock themselves out of the market???

Hmmm, so do you have a question? Or are you just making a comment? The HFT works just fine on all WD drives. If you have a very seek-intensive application, of course there will be a performance difference; however, I have yet to see a benchmark that could show such a difference, and a user that coul...

nVidia does have performance problems ....

Grrr, my greatest new super quiet PC with an XFX 7600 GS simply sucks for simple performance when using a dual-monitor system in portrait mode. I've been using this monitor configuration since 1999 and this setup is much poorer performance than anything I've seen up to now. (For example, an old Matr...

Either machine is fine. Whichever one you think is more reliable is best. The power supply is just fine (overkill actually) I have no idea where you get the idea of not booting off a RAID 5 array. You need to get the drivers loaded when you do the install, but that's pretty well documented. Best to ...

Possibly the problems with Photoshop and the video are due to more than just software drivers - maybe CPU or chipset bugs?? This is not a widely used nor tested products (with Win XP / Apps ).

Odd answer from blandoon :? The article is just fine, and you'll notice the most common method of controlling speed of fans is to adjust the voltage. And that's just what you do. In normal household use (like a ceiling fan) it's called a reostat or dimmer. Fine units for lab use are called a variac....
