What Rusty said. Also being an architect and playing with this stuff on a daily basis I have to also mention the importance of large amounts of disk space required for swap space and temp space for various projects. This space does not have to be on a super fast drive or raid but does need to be the...

If you still have access to it, maybe you can measure the display panel and PCB its mounted to before the main PCB. If i'm wrong then id be very pleased if you could find any identifying marks on the display so I can get one for myself. My plan is to make my own fan controller similar to those disc...

Quick question for the reviewers: Is it possible to stick a 2.5" drive in there (using a normal 2.5" -> 3.5" converter mount) and do you think it would help reduce acoustics for a 2.5" drive? Heat transfer is not critical in this situation. sgtpokey, Yes you could physically mount the drive into th...

Yup and you could probably toss in a few more hard drives as well as a small cook top and still have power leftover.

Use the search function, there is many a thread about how much power items consume in your computer.

I confess I am also an SR junky. I was sceptical at first but quickly grew addicted to the game.

It proves that a well coded game does not have to have flashy graphics to be fun. Back to the games I used to play on the TI99-4a

In all reality a "consumer level" UPS is only going to give you a few mins of up time. They are really designed for those quick brown outs, power flux, and very short black outs. Almost all of the UPS systems come with power down software, so when power is cut it will start a shutdown program on you...

The best thing that you can do since you really do not have access to the floor below you is to install a raised floor system, either one like they use in data centers or you can simply build one yourself. Then you can line the backside of the flooring system with acoustic dampening material. If you...

Re: Is it worth it to replace the fuse in a PSU?

1) Is this a safe assumption? Is the fuse the only thing that got fried when I grounded the 3-pin fan connector on the case? Possibly, does not hurt to check 2) Is it advisable to open the PSU and replace the fuse? Is it worth it? For a couple buck part it is well worth it. 3) Where would I obtain ...

I would suggest going with your powersupply of choice and ditching the metal plate all together, and just replace the lost support with a series of small dowels or better yet blocks of rubber. The surface area that the fan will be sucking from will greatly minimize the "suck noise effect".

let me be the first to say: WELCOME TO SPCR! I am not sure how far you are going to get not wanting to crack the sucker open and fiddle with it. The easiest thing I can think of is to rig a papst or a panaflo fan up to blow over the intake grills of the LCDs fans. Just run a long power run from your case. If you want to fiddle. I would cut the...

First step in figuring out the problem is to unplug EVERYTHING from the mobo but 1 stick of ram, the cpu and its fan, and video card(only if you dont have onboard to use). See if that fires up. If that doesnt work you have one of 5 parts that might be bad. At this point I would borrow a friends syst...

Well you should be able to do ok with that setup. The key is getting good gigabit cards and good hard drive controllers. Something in the higher end 3com area for your network and switches. How does that cover come off? If it lifts straight off you could simply cut a larger hole and mount a nice size sink/fan on it and let the whole mess stick out of the case. Then you could just gasket the hole to minimize air escape. If the case slides off to the front or some such way that prevents ...

Placing HDs in the bottom of the case is a fairly common thing around here. Make sure you put it on an antistatic piece of foam, ususally your mobo will come with a piece of it.
