I posted about this in the Abit heatpipe thread (because the design is similar), but it probably should have been in its own thread like this. The comments from that thread were that the Asus heatpipe runs closer to the board, but it does not use an exhaust heatsink as the Abit design does. the extr...

www.ebuyer.com have both the SATA and the PATA versions of the 400GB drive. I recently purchased a drive from them and their hard drive packaging method has improved (since the last time I purchased). The drive was packaged in its own box with foam cut to fit around all sides. www.dabs.com also has ...

I tried replying to this earlier but had trouble connecting to the server. The Samsung website doesn't mention 120/platter for that model (it says "120.0GB Formatted Capacity" and "Capacity:120.0, Disks:2, Heads:4"), so it could be that they just use the fastest part of each platter. Don't manufactu...

Has anybody tried one of the new FDB-equipped Western Digital drives yet? (I don't think the Raptors are really available yet, but I do think the PD's are.) Someone at storagereview has a WD400LB http://forums.storagereview.net/index.php?showtopic=12791 . The title of the topic is " WD400LB - FDB, ...

Hi,

I've also seen this drive at komplett http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?acti ... =1&cks=PRL and google seems to find a few other shops selling them.

Is anyone using this drive yet?

Are there any online reviews that I have missed?

Thanks.

That's true, it's on the list of things to try. :)

Tridion, you can have your thread back now.

Thanks, do you know if graphite has better thermal conductivity than copper?

Re: Copper dust?

Copper dust is used for controlling diseases on potatoes, tomatoes, fruits, flowering shrubs and shade trees. It is also optimal silencing material for HDD's. First put your hdd inside a sock (to remove some resonances) then put it between 2 bags of copper dust. Use as thick and heavy and airtight ...

I've got the standard feet on mine, and on my wood floor, it transfers every vibration into the dining room below. You could try the sorbothane feet that audiophiles use to isolate their hi-fi components. But in saying that, you should probably try to find what's causing the vibration, and get rid ...

Hi, I haven't tried the Barracuda V myself but the 60 GB model is a single platter drive so it should be quieter than the 80 GB Barracuda V. It would also be nice to hear from someone who can do a direct comparison between the 40 GB Barracuda IV and the 60 GB Barracuda V (both single platter). As a ...

The 80 GB Barracuda V is a dual platter (triple head), the 60 GB Barracuda V and 40 GB Barracuda IV are both single platter (dual head). IMO, you should expect the single platter (of the same model) to be quieter than dual platter (at idle). I was considering this myself but I decided to wait for th...

New "Silent" case from Lian-Li

It's the PC-6070 but it doesn't look very silent (no drive isolators? :( )

It's at directron and there are some better pictures at thinkcomputers.
