I bought my Pro fans from SVC about two weeks ago. Where did you get yours? Perhaps SVC just got a bad batch, or maybe there is some environmental factor that is affecting our judgments.

My experience with two Arctic Cooling Pro TC fans at stock 12v are that they are extremely quiet...EXCEPT for an incessant ticking noise from the bearings, which can easily be heard over the rest of the fan noise. I do find, however, that the fan on my Arctic Cooling 4 TC HSF does not exhibit this t...

Good to hear CompMan. :) It sounds like a 80mm through a fan-adapter shouldn't have much of a problem cooling the CPU acceptably then. I assume the 40C figure is for idle? If so, have you tried folding or Prime95 to see how the load temperatures are?

I shall be curious to read your results. I'm still hunting for parts and at any rate I have a vacation lined up soon as well, which means I probably won't be assembling my system for a while. Good luck with yours.

Hey CompMan, you didn't order that AMD special bundle w/ a 3200+, Asus K8V SE Deluxe, FarCry and T-shirt by any chance, did you? :D I got that one, and it also has a Venus 7+ as you mentioned. I'm thinking of getting an 80 to 70mm fan adapter and mounting an arctic cooling fan on it. Does anybody kn...

I noticed on SVC's website that the Seasonic Precise 300W's model number is 'SS-300FS R3'. Could this be an indication that this part uses the same rev 3 fan controller as the A3 editions of the Super Silencers and Tornados? Or am I just being too optimistic? Any first-hand experiences with th...

Just an update on this thread, I got some Stretch Magic at Michael's today and the cashier scannned a coupon at the register that gave me 40% off the price, making it $1.49 before tax for a 3m 1.8mm spool. I'm not sure how long this discount will last, nor what locations are participating, but if an...

A great quiet (at least out of all the ones I've used) wireless keyboard is on sale at Staples for $10 this week. A larger fan can push more CFM at less RPM, translating into less noise. Of course, this doesnt necessarily mean that the manufacturer will use a quieter fan, but it is more feasible.

The "P" designation denotes 8MB cache. The "L" is what the 2MB versions are. I have no idea about the "M", but I know for sure that the "P" and "L" iterations have FDB.

Compared to any drive with FDB bearings it is not in the LEAST bit "quiet". While the idle whine is not as high pitched or piercing, it has a strong grainy quality to it, which was even clearly audible over my old 30+ dB case. I'd hate to have to listen to it now with my ultra quiet <20dB box. :shoc...

Well, I unplugged the fan a few weeks ago on my Radeon 8500 and have been running it that way since, with no artifacts in Morrowind or 3Dmark. It receives a bit of air from the diffused exhaust air so that might be helping a bit. Any way to monitor the core temps just to make sure?
