Re: SilverStone KL07: Perfect case?

I'm wondering if that foam will get full of dust and be a pain to clean after a while. It's not like metal or plastic where you can just wipe it down.

Re: RX550 Review Compilation Thread

One really important thing to note about the 500 series: there is no Windows 8/8.1 support. They are Windows 7 and Windows 10 only.

I was thinking about a Sharkoon M25. I suppose if worst comes to worst I can fix the window with some insulating foam or something.

How much difference does a window make?

I guess the answer is "it depends on the window", but in general does it make much difference having a window or not? I'm only thinking of a low end GPU which will run fanless most of the time, and a Ryzen CPU at stick speeds, so nothing really demanding. Just needs to be reasonably quiet, so my gue...

Re: RX550 Review Compilation Thread

I bought a Sapphire RX550 Pulse 4GB and can confirm passive operation.

The first post has a mistake, these cards are not 150W TDP. They are all under 75W, no extra power connector required.

MSI RX 550 Aero ITX 2GB http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-550-2gb,5034-2.html Overclocked. No semi-passive fan mode. Like all RX 550s, it has one dual-link DVI port, one HDMI 2.0 interface, and a DisplayPort connector. MSI claim that a BIOS update may sort the fan out, but otherwise ...

Re: Quiet card for 4k/5k desktop use?

Seems like all the 560 cards have 1xDP, 1xHDMI and 1xDVI, all 4k capable. The only cards with more are the 570/580 ranges that have 3xDP.

Three 4k capable ports should be enough I think.

Re: Medium size case with 2x 5.25" bays

The airflow at the front isn't the best, but I think it will be okay. In person the mesh has relatively large holes, and there is an additional removable dust filter in front of the fans that sit behind it. If you watch the video you can see it for just a moment. I like the one you found too. The on...

Four positions for 2.5" SSDs and 3x 3.5" bays in the lower chamber. I've seen one in real life, it's quite compact and tidy. Buttons and USB ports on the front, ideal ...

Re: Quiet card for 4k/5k desktop use?

I wonder what the RX 550 will be like. The high end models are just like the 470/480, but higher clocks and thus more heat. If the 550 is the same it seems like you might as well get the 450.

Re: Quiet card for 4k/5k desktop use?

With reference to my own experience, I don't think so: and about bloatware/unnecessary options, just don't install the driver package blindly (that applies to both AMD and Nvidia). To be fair it's more than a decade since I bought an Nvidia card so I'm probably talking nonsense. Well, the other thi...

That's a good point. I wonder if waiting might be a good idea. Maybe something like a 570 or even 560 might have similar performance but run a bit cooler. I guess there is no way of knowing until the cards are out.

Re: Quiet card for 4k/5k desktop use?

When you say "semi-passive", you mean it stops the fans at low temperature?

I was thinking about the RX 480. The Radeon drivers seem to be better, less crapware etc, and looking at the reviews in this forum they seem to be more consistently passive up to 60C.

Quiet card for 4k/5k desktop use?

I'm looking for a graphics card that is quiet when used with 4k/5k desktop. I currently have a 7970 and the fan ramps up quite a bit with a 4k screen and web browser open. I don't really play games any more, only old ones and those will be fine at 1080p. All I'm really bothered about is being able t...

Medium size case with 2x 5.25" bays

Hi. I'm building a Ryzen system, no overclocking, moderately powerful GPU for older games and 4k desktop, SSDs for storage. I could go for an mATX mobo but would prefer ATX. I'm looking for a case that is reasonably quiet, not too massive and has two 5.25" drive bays. I have an optical drive and SAT...

I've built the system up in a Bitfenix Phenom Mini-ITX case. This case has plenty of HDD bays and good cooling options. The only case fan is a 230mm Bitfenix one at the front. I'm using the stock Intel CPU cooler. I have the following drives installed: Crucial CT512M55MU01 SSD on Mini-SATA header, c...

Re: Replacing my server/NAS with something lower power

Yep, internally there is a 2 pin header but it's 19V... Not sure where I got the idea it was 12V from. Anyway, the only IC I can identify is a Toshiba FET. The step-down controller is microscopic, too small to have any discernible marking on it, so I can't find a datasheet to determine the input vol...

Re: Replacing my server/NAS with something lower power

The board is design for 19V, so use that only, its simply the way it is. If you want to go with direct 12V, go with a different motherboard with standard 24/8 pin connectors and use picoPSU. It does in fact have a 12V supply header on board, which is why I'm wondering what the real input range for ...

Re: Replacing my server/NAS with something lower power

Nice idle, wait until you mount the 3.5 hdds =) A NofAN95 for sure can run it fanless, but the problem might be the space and probably the hdds with no fans, heat might build up over time. You might be able to get away with something like Noctua NH-L12i depending on the load, and try to stop the fa...

Thanks Mike, but doesn't it require 19V?

There are a few high efficiency FSP models available to me but none with the right connector, so I might have to modify one. At least that way I could build current monitoring in to the cable.

So I have a DQ77KB and Xeon E3-1265L v2 but still need a power supply. The Great Wall model that SPCR tested doesn't seem to be the best in terms of efficiency. Any suggestions? I want 4 HDDs so 120W would probably be a good idea.
