The Economist recently had an article about standby energy costs. While as an spcr'er I've been aware of PC power use, one tends to discount the standby usage of all household items. A refrigerator is a needed evil, one gets an efficient one. Air conditioning and heating is also easy to moderate. Li...

I own a pair of sennheiser 580s and some Grado 325's (?). Also own a pair of the bose active cancellation. I've used them for a few years on planes. They are not bad. They really are designed for planes. They are very comfortable (you can fall asleep with them on easily.) They are easy to take off w...

Thank you for the replies, It seems to be correct - AMD lists supported memory models (PDF) , and ECC modules are included. If the motherboard also lists compatibility then it seems I am in luck. The Asus A8V does have AGP and socket 939. However, I've had bad luck with VIA chipsets so I'll pass thi...

Reroute motherboard power cable

You may consider rerouting the motherboard power cable. Your PSU looks like it has bottom intake vents. I just read the AMD system builders guide and one of their tips for reducing EMI is routing power cables away from your RAM. It looks like you can double back and fold the power cable at the begin...

My doggie is quiet as long as she is sleeping and not snoring.

Her dog tags tend to make a bit of metallic noise. I was able to muffle them with some rubber padding. The bit I can't handle is getting her to be quiet when she's begging for food. Definitely an annoying high-pitched yelping.
