I don't remember how long I've owned my Silverstone but it's run silent and reliable all the time. Recently a strange problem has occurred though. When I turn my computer on it lights up for a second and then dies. Even the leds on the PSU goes black, but if I switch it off for a few seconds it work...

A notebook drive works fine if you're not using streaming samples and not to many audio tracks. And since it's a bedroom studio I guess you won't bring a rock band with a drum kit in there. :-) But if you are going to use big streaming sample libraries or multi-track recording with lots of tracks an...

I wouldn't call it noisy but me too wonder how anyone could call it silent. I've bought lots of fans and PSU's that are said to be silent but never been satisfied. Until now. :) I have blocked the upper fan hole and replaced the other two with soft mounted Nexus fans at 5v. I still can hear it even ...

If the atx connector was mounted incorrectly, which should be hard to do, I guess the computer wouldn't start at all. Anyway, I tried an NX 3000 and the 3.3v is back to normal.

And I wonder what could happen if I use a PSU with too high 3.3v line. It feels bad to throw it away if it works.

3.3v too high?

I have a Nexus 3500 PSU and yesterday the ASUS POST reporter started to speak in Windows "CPU test failed" or something like that. Everything seems to work but it's anoying to hear that warning all the time. I checked Hardware Monitor in BIOS and it shows my 3.3v beeing around 3.70v and all the volt...

So, thinner fans are much noisier?!
I've replaced the stock fan (adda) with an Arctic Cooling and a Zalman resistor. Much better than the original but still there's a humming sound in about 220 Hz.

That's a good idea. Unfortunately the case doesn't allow that without some modding. (The fan mounting holes aren't visible when the psu is in the case.)

Pardon my bad engrish. :-) I thought using EAR grommet was the same as "suspending" it. There's not even room for EAR grommets, the curciut board(?) is too close. It's a Q-Technology 300W.

No, there is a 80x25mm fan inside the psu but if I want to suspend it I'll need a thinner because the space is really tight. I've seen 80x15 fans on some cpu-coolers.

80x15 mm fans?

Are there silent 80x15 mm fans? How do they compare to 80x25 fans? I'm thinking of replacing the psu fan and suspend the fan but there is no room unless I use a thinner one.

I must say, the sleeving on the Pro fans is quite nice, but if I were to do it again I would probably stick to the cheaper TC-1's and sleeve them myself.
Sleeving? How do you do that? (I'm not that good at english and don't understand what it means.)

I found some cheap Arctic fans here in Sweden for 49 sek, about $6 I think. It's the non-pro model but next to the Nexus fans it's the best I've tried. Since it has a built-in thermistor(?), a fan controller is of no use. But you can remove it (and connect the wires) if you want to be able to contro...

Vibrating Nexus-3500

I have a problem with resonance from my Nexus-3500. When I attach the side cover of the case, a low but disturbing hum appears. It's a steel case and I have some kind of heavy soundmat applied. Is there some way to suspend the PSU or is there room for rubber grommets inside to decouple the fan?

I had a 40GB Baracuda IV in the Zalman but as mentioned before the temps got quite high because of the low airflow in the 5'25" bays. I just saw the Carillion ( http://www.carillondirect.com/ ) systems and would really like to have one. Is it really that quiet? And what about temps in the molex drive enclosures? I already have an almost quiet system and Carillion is too expensive for me so I think I'll go for just a rackmountcase....

So it would benefit from positive air pressure in the case?

Now I have 1 intake in front and the cpu air is ducted out back. The cpu fan spinns faster which should make my case pressure negative, even without the psu. Anyway I've can't hear any improvment when removing the case sidepanels.

Noisy Nexus 3000

The noisiest part in my computer is my Nexus PSU. It's a whooshing sound which makes me crazy when trying to sleep in the same room. I've 'remounted' the stock fan with rubber things (http://www.gtek.se/img_prod/efs.jpg) and that help a bit. I used a dremel to cut out the grill but that didn't make ...

AMD, overclocking and silence don't go well together. =/
I had big problems with my temps before I upgraded from an Athlon 1GHz to a 2500+ with barton core. It has 0.13µm instead of 0.18 which makes it a bit cooler.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this before on the forums but I'd like to recommend bike tires (cut into appropriate pieces) when suspensing hdd's, fans and so on. I've used it for a long time with my computer that's usually on 24/7 and it still seems fine.
