The stuff that is already built doesn't magically disappear with no environmental impact and the pace of new stuff being built is unlikely to slow. It's all down to basic rules of supply and demand. Clearly the manufacturer cannot know in advance if you are going to buy a particular product, but on...

Here in Australia it isn't easy to get those stand-by power strips commercially, but there are a couple of kits available from Jaycar (our equivalent to Radio Shack) which are either available as kits or pre-built, such as this one , which plugs in to a USB socket. I have used it for about 6 months ...

Yep, I've nicked Bluefront's idea to use a pleated car cabin air filter. It's made out of some kind of woven fibre material. It's somewhat restrictive, but the large size together with the pleats increases the surface area enough to make resistance negligable.

See link in my sig for photos.

It's not. There is none. It's just an analogue controller with manual voltage controllers.

You would have to run the RPM wire to a separate header plugged into the mobo if you want to do this.

Hi Irish, and welcome to the forums. You don't need a 3 or 4 pin fan - I've used a 2 pin on in mine (a quiet 80mm Panaflo) and it works perfectly. Just make sure you plug it in correctly if the fan connector is slightly different. And bear in mind you'll have to do some cutting of the fan and case t...

I have used the Sunbeam ones and like a lot of people here I managed to break a few in the process. They aren't the easiest to install so I drilled out the holes in my fans a bit, and they seem to be pretty effective once in place. I haven't seen the EAR ones as they aren't easily available in Oz. Just to clarify, the Sunbeam one is an analogue voltage controller (hence it's popularity). The one Felger refers to is a different one that uses PWM. Another thumbs up here from a Sunbeam Rheobus owner for the past 3 years. In fact I've been experimenting with Speedfan to control my fans automatica...

I agree with dukla, and I think most serious silencers here would. This is really not the right place to ask about lowest temps, as that is not what most of us here are aiming for. IMHO if your temps are much below 45C then you've got too much cooling, ergo your system is probably too noisy! Persona...

I will be interested in Mike's appraisal of it, and how easily it can be silenced. e.g. what quiet fans would fit inside it? I'm running an Aerocool HT-101 passively in my XP2400+, but with the 120mm PSU fan right next to it. I don't think you will have a problem exhausting only 25W of heat through the PSU, especially if your goal is for a 1 fan PC. So I wouldn't worry about orientation too much, as long as you can point ...

Does anyone know what size the fans are? Like many people I found the stock fan on my Xbox 1 too loud and buzzy, so I managed to squeeze an 80mm Panaflo in there and it is now great for movies. I reckon you've still got far too many fans in your system. Get rid of that slot blower fan if you haven't already done so. putting the HDD near the front of the case where there is some airflow (even without an intake fan) will be more than sufficient to cool it. And take the fan off the Radeon! Yo...

I haven't, but I think it would be easy to do and worthwhile, if you have one. You could soft mount a 2.5" drive in the tray, maybe by wedging it in place with foam blocks or something, and it would be dead quiet. You might even be able to suspend it with elastic, although I haven't looked at this.

If you just want basic manual control and not PWM temp based control, just go for a couple of fanmates. Or the Sunbeam Rheobus which is an excellent cheap analogue controller.

Yes, you lose the heatsink effect of traditional metal mountings, but most modern cases have better airflow than they used to, so it's not normally a problem. If your HDDs are in some kind of airflow, even from a 5V Panaflo or an open intake, that should be enough. If in doubt, monitor temps for a w...

You could also try an Aerocool HT-101 tower type heatsink, which is great if your CPU socket is near a exhaust fan. That will help keep the CPU cool, especially if you duct it.

I use one in my socket A (AthlonXP 2400+) and it works well passively, with only the PSU fan nearby pulling air across it.
