The orientation of the HT-101 is dependant upon the orientation of your socket. I only realized this _after_ purchasing the HT-101, but in retrospect, I could've realized this earlier taking a closer look at the product pictures. For the HT-101, the intake/exhaust will be oriented in the direction o...

I have both the HT-101 and DP-102 coolers. Here are my quick notes about them comparively: Both are fine coolers. The low pressure drop design allows less noise per CFM due to less turbulence and fans to operate at higher CFM. Between the two: The HT-101 is definately better as it has more surface a...

I'm building a system with a BQE right now so I just tried a 38mm (L1A) on the front and it dosen't fit at all. It only has about 1.25" of clearance so you're limited to a 1" fan, max. This front fan mounting system on the BQE certainly isn't one of it's strong points. Personally, I don't use a fro...

yes i have seen the thermal specification. it's on the datasheet, not a webpage script. i don't design to webpage scripts. look on the datasheet and you'll see that the script is displaying a misnomer. probably due to the inflexibility of the web script, maximum Tcase is misprinted as "Max Junction ...

At 100ºC P4 dont do a throttling it simply die. no, it's not too high. if fact, it's conservative. i've run intel CPUs over 100° C for extended periods of time. additionally, the P4 thermal control circuit (TCC, which is not th...

i have the JMC 1225-L (120mm x 25mm). it's not quite at 12V- far from it. it's not close to being silent at 7V, but quiet, and at 5V, it starts clicking softly (5V is below spec however). not recomended. besides, if you have the space and want more airflow, go with a 120mm x 38mm size, or 120mm x 32...

here's a picture from the alienware site:

could be a nice addition for ZM80A-HP cooled cards, esp. for people that move their cases a lot.

there are a couple things i could hopefully shed some light in this thread, esp. for PCB mounted CPU heatsink designs: ripping the CPU socket off, while catastrophic, is not the most common type of damage to your system if too much torque is placed on the heatsink. more common is board warpage over ...

here's my subjective experience with papst, panaflo, and silencer (i own or have sampled ~5 papst, ~10 panaflos, 4 silencers). take this information as personal experience only, and not as matter of fact. papst is quieter at 12V than panaflo. airflow is similar but may be more on the panaflo. at 5-7...

what is your fan setup? intake/exhaust? as a suggestion, before replacing fans, you may want to have your setup examined first to see if you can push air more efficiently before spending money. for instance, here is a simplified example of what i mean: look at a typcial flow vs. pressure curve for d...

nvidia does not publicly post their datasheets. i have heard from another developer that Tj=85C. take it as hearsay, but 85C for junction temp. is relatively poor, so i doubt it's any lower than that. make a real conservative estimate for thermal characterization, and it would probably be safe to sa...

basically: VA is AC power. watts is DC power, or AC power at unity power factor (PF=1). watts and VA is interchangable if your load is non-reactive (another way of saying PF=1). PF of non-PFC ATX power supplies is typically around .6-.7. i think some generics can be as bad as .5 though. use the simp...

speedfan is software that utilizes whatever hardware fan controller it can find onboard. thus, how it controls your fan is mainly a questions of what what type of fan control is being used (motherboard depandant) with what model of fan. typical fan control is done by PWM, but there are other methods...

if it's an athlon, i doubt it is thermal tape as thermal tape normally is not effective enough. it may be phase-change thermal material. it's easiest to remove when it changes phase, which is when it's hot. so if it's phase-change, an easy way to remove it remove it quickly after you turn your compu...

looks like tom's hardware guide (thg) ( http://www.tomshardware.com/ ) does a non-spectacular socket a cooler round-up. overall, not an incredibly interesting read, and notably, low-noise favorites around here, thermalright, and to a lesser extent, alpha novatech, coolers, are not represented. howev...
