Plekto , I find that an interesting design, especially with the back-of-board pipe & sink combo. My concern is ... at 161mm from bottom of the sink to the top of the heat pipes ... that's 6.3434". The Sonata III case is documented as being 8.1" (205.73mm) wide. Take into account the motherboard tra...

Request for heatsink recommendation - new build

System Purpose: replace my roughly 5yo, maxed out, tired and damnably noisy Socket 478 Biostar SFF as a day-to-day general purpose PC (email, net, graphics editing, word processing, financial processing, etc) and backup game machine (I have a dedicated LAN gaming SFF; this will be for playing games m...

Will a TRUE fit in a Sonata III case?

I'm considering putting a TRUE (Thermaright Ultra120 Extreme) in an Antec Sonata III 5000. Thermalright's site indicates that 7" is required from the surface of the motherboard in order for the sink to fit in a case. The Sonata III case is listed as being 8.1" wide. Obviously some space is lost to t...

Req cooler for E8400 on DS3p in Sonata III?

Per subject, I'd like some guidance on a CPU cooler for an E8400/E8500 (depends on which becomes available first) on a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R in an Antec Sonata III. Surrounding the CPU will be ... below - The video card will be the ECS 8800GT that comes with the S1 cooler. beside - There will be fou...

Should Antec Earthwatts 500 be sufficient?

Planning a new system to replace a nearly 5yo SFF that's been upgraded as far as possible and ... in all honesty, I'm simply ready for something new. I've decided that the new system will be based on the Intel E8400 (or E8500 if it's out before I order), the ECS 8800GT that comes stock with the S1 c...

Bad News for me. :( Question to Sapphire Tech: "Please can you tell me the height of the Heatpipe cooler on the HD3850 passive version. I need to know if it will fit in the space between the PCIE slot and the Northbridge cooler on my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4). Thanks." Their reply: "Dear Si...

MikeC , Noticed something interesting this evening. My Zen was running my 2.4GHz CPU at 3.0GHz without my having done anything to overclock it! BIOS settings were: CPU FSB Clock: AUTO CPU Over Clock By: +0MHz CPU Voltage Set: AUTO But it was pushing the FSB of my CU from the default 133MHz to 166MH...

Fascinating. I just posted over at SFFTech asking for recommendations as to what my 200T internals (video card, cpu, memory, sata hd, etc) could be moved into. Considering a Soltek EQ3401 Pro if I can find one ... would really like gigabit LAN on the mobo, Having just put together a Shuttle Zen (ST6...

MikeC , Just wanted to thank you for your recommendation. I brought my ST62K based, living room locarted, WX system online friday and with the TV/Stereo off and no other sounds being generated in the room, I can't hear the "Zen" at all from more than one to two feet away with nothing but suspending...

dukla2000,

Thanks for the response. One more question, did you leave the fan on the side of the heat sink (that blows thru the heat pipe cooling fins) or remove/replace it?

Thank you,

Biostar IDEQ 200T

When I got this system, I thought it was nice and quiet (and compared to the full tower it replaced, it was). However, I've since obtained a Shuttle G5 8300g and realize that my poor ol' 200T is a monster sound machine. :( So. What can I do to quiet it down? Has anyone done any work on one of these ...

Out of curiosity, I've seen a lot of comments re the Nexus 80mm fan for the Shuttle Zen ... what about the Papst 80mm 4-pin (fixed speed?) fan? The Nexus is rated at 20.2CFM with 17.6dBA while the Papst is rated at 19.f CFM with 12dBA. Seems to me the Papst should be much quieter, but I don't see it...

Mike, Thank you very much for such a quick response. Shuttle Zen, eh? I've got a Biostar IDEQ (200T) and a Shuttle Gaming system ... both are noiser than I want in my living room. This Zen system is (can be made) truly quiet enough to not be a bother in a room like that? looks to be about the same p...

Req mobo & cooling advice for Antec Minuet

Good morning, I'm buying or building a new PC. It's going to be a number cruncher more than anything else - receive data from a weather station, generate HTML based on said data, and provide a near-realtime feed to an online weather page. It must be unobtrusive (small and quiet) since it'll live the...
