Topic: Recommend a Silent Mouse and Keyboard?

Well this isnt a plug for a keyboard or a mouse....but rather a mousepad. I know...some people want a completely silent keyboard and a mouse that doesnt click....but this $7 mousepad will at least make the mouse movement as close to silent as you will get and still give you the accuracy you need. Fo...

As a reply to the above, I recently had one stick of my RAM fail. I ran memtest on each stick individually and the other one is fine. But yes...they do run HOT. The included heat spreaders may not to a good enough job. What kind of heatsink did you use on yours? I also posted a link in the first pos...

Thanks! I probably could tuck the SATA cables under the drives or off behind them, but from what I understand, and maybe I am being completely over cautious, you should put any stress on them or bend them at sharp angles. Is that just a myth? As far as fans, I am fine with it how it is. It runs perf...

I got the new HDD, and as we speak it is getting filled up with files. I am finally making my other 400GB a backup as it was intended to be from the beginning. The USB box can finally be shut off! Yay!! It was the only noisemaker in the system, and was still fairly inaudible. I decided against the N...

Well it has been a while for me. I have been working on other projects and my PC has been silently plugging away since its build. I have only opened it once to put a USB card in, and clean it...which wasnt bad at all..the front filter is doing its job superbly! But...I am FINALLY getting around to g...

I maybe went overboard with the aluminum tape but I figure with all the holes in the front sealed except the fan intake, more air would get sucked in through the fan rather than stray air through all the holes...maybe a few more CFM directed over the hardware.

The first thing I did was strip the case down completely. I then took the dremel to the fan grilles. I also removed the front USB ports as they restrict the airflow into the intake. They are easy to remove. Then I yanked the fan it came with and put in the 2 nexus fans. They are running at 12V and I...

the Zalman heatsink is super easy to install...its a bit tricky to get the brackets to line up right with the holes...but no biggy. Its almost harder sometimes getting the old one off the chip hehe. I made a duct out of cardboard to try and get the intake fan to move across the heatsink and it didnt...

the heatsink does get very hot. but I have run several stress tests for over an hour each and played a couple fairly high end games and high resolutions with no issues at all! as far as long term reliability? i guess I will have to just wait it out and see.....by the time it dies, I would probably b...

Well it has been almost 2 full months since I "completed" this build and I finally had to crack her open to install a USB PCI card (I ran out of ports). And as dirty as my old PC was, I expected it to be full of dust and fuzz and stuff since it has pretty much been running 24/7. To my surprise, ther...

The top and right side are one piece and is held on by 5-6 screws. there are a couple on the top of the left side, and several on the back of the case around the edge of that panel. it lifts up and out. tight fit. the front bezel is held on with 6 screws located on either side of the inside of the c...

I built a similar system to your planned one. I used a A64 3200+, XP-90 heastsink/nexus 92mm fan, MSI K8N Neo4 board, Seagate 120GB HDD, Plextor 716SA. I went with Antec's Phantom 350 PSU and ahve had zero issues so far. It is in a Silverstone TJ04 case with Nexus 120mm fans on intake an exhaust and...

HDD isolation ideas for my case

I need to put another drive in my machine and I would like some opinions on which of the following options you would do if it was yours. First, here is the current setup with one HDD set on some foam blocks and secured with alum. tape: http://www.hostdub.com/albums/Audiophiliac/DSC00308.sized.jpg It...

Another Update

This computer gets better every day! :) After putting the Zalman voltage reduction cables on the case fans, I only got a 3 degree rise in case temp. CPU temp stayed at 32C Idle, and HDD temps average 28C. The northbridge heatsink still gets extra hot, but I haven't noticed any adverse effects. I was...

I didnt install the nVidia firewall or network security utilities. I downloaded just the free trial of the newest version and it works fine. Final (for now) Part

Well here she is. Sloppy pics but thats what you get for now :). I made a "duct" to get some of the intake air to flow over the northbrige. So far temps are 34 CPU, 35 CASE (reported by MSI utility), and 26 HDD (Dtemp). Noise is about where my old machine was/is....so I will have to experiment with ...

Well it fired up and installed XP first try! Looks like the SATA drivers are only needed if you are trying to install the OS on a RAID array. The SATA DVD drive didnt have any trouble at all. I think as long as I have the fans slowed down reasonably, the airflow should be fine. I am going to work on the box for a couple hours tonight and throw up a pic or 2. I might even fire it up and see how it sounds. I made a slipstream XP disc with the RAID drivers on it. I will see how that works.

good question matt_garman! :) It does appear that there isnt any provision for air intake. But, there is a void between the front panel and the bezel, I would guess 3/4 of an inch or more.
