did you try overclocking or undervolting? I just put a 101 on a ti4200 and seems to run cooler than active fan!

I just had mine setup and so far it's doing quite ok. Idle chipset temps are 40 degrees C with a NB47J and a Nexus 120mm fan blowing on it. Side panels are on. My Gigabyte 6600GT idles at 50 degrees C. CPU (3200+) idles at 27 with a Papst 120mm at 7V. I'm also using a XP120 and while the first 2 RA...

The cases are only 12 inches High x 13.5 inches long x 6.5 wide about the size of an Antec Aria on it's side
make it fit! 4.5inchs is 120mm fan. cut the hole.

if the ihs isn't epoxed you could take that off and clean/lap the core. I think that the 3.0ghz isn't epoxied but some of the newer heat spreaders are so don't try it unless you are sure. As far as teh 90/120 question? It only helps cool the core and only gives about a 2C difference. The xp90C is pr...

1. now that is weird only sees 3.2gb or your ram? 2. I think it is a problem with the on chip memory controller and might be fixe d with the E stepping or Venice Core. I don't know of any work arounds right now but maybe new bioses will address the problem. What memory bandwidth do you get with siso...

Okay I did it again Modded 403 with a 12cm fan from below ?s

Well I modded my Power Supply again! I removed the 80mm fan and cut a 120mm hole in the bottom of the powersupply. added vibration mounts for fans and powersupply mount. also the fan is a panafloM and running at 5volts. The case is full tower. Should I tape closed the other small vents with tape so ...

go with venice core(939)! I think you can undervolt the venice core april 18th ship date and practically run it passive with the xp120.

dfi is best mobo but chipset cooler needs to be replace with passive heatsink.

included isolated mounts like the directon kinda with two ends.

having a fan that starts at 5volts would be key too!

sleeved wires lead that is 12inchs long with pass thru would be nice.

improved TIM or Thermal Interface Material. along the lines you were saying more surface area. the Thermal Interface Material of choice is Artic Silver 5 for 70% and 30% do better with Cerimique. Decreasing the voltage to the core of the cpu is another way to decrease the total wattage/heat your hsf...

great work.

I Think TIMs and link to reviews would be important too. in cpu section.

also decreasing the vcore link review would be nice in the how to pick a mobo section or number 14.

great ideas.

I took yeha advice and modded the psu again!!!

I removed the fan and cut a 120mm panaflo M running at 7volts blowing in from below. so it is blowing up onto the heatsinks and passively pushed out of the back.

one question did I void my warranty!?

mikec you are running the dfi with 4gb ram? did you realize the divider lock when running 4sticks? try just ram in slots 2 and 4 and you should get much better memory bandwidth. new bios 3.31 v1 comes with memtest 1.55 and should really help test for stability. goto dfi street for more info. java th...

Isn't the fastest ram that your mobo can use 3200 ddr400?

why did u youse the 4400?
he will run it at 250+ 200 or ddr400 but lots of people run the nforce chipset with tccd ram ics at ddr640 speeds! more memory bandwidth!

yeah I was thinking the same thing. So far it works fine and temps seem low for the case 23C so I'm not worried but the life of the power supply may be shorten than normal if the fan stops turning doesn't start up at the correct voltages.

that is a good idea but I think the passive solution is better and for 19bucks you can't really beat it. If I could put the fan on the card fine but I have a window and it would look kinda ghetto with the pci bend trick and red cold cathode.

did 7volt mod on psu fan with temp control antec 403x

I modded my powersupply and got noise to nothing but I took power from temp controlled pcb and stole 5volt rail from old bx style connector that I don't need(bye bye warranty). I need a passive solution for a g4 ti4200 low budget options

I replaced the fan and did the 7 volt mod with the new fan but the card is still the loudest fan(small and fast kinda whoosh wwhoosh noise at times).

What are some good passive soltions or 92mm fan mountable solutions?

great post

to monitor chipset get motherboard monitor and see it is an option. last I looked no nforce support but that was weeks ago.

I think the mobo came with a disc and it should have a tweaker or something to see the temps/does the bios show the temps?

Venice core would be best default vcore is 1.35/1.40 but use more power than winchester cores? Mobos with nforce4 chip are great for Venice core. You would need to remove chipset fan on dfi lanparty ultra-D but many people have done this and seems to work great with your value ram. with extra vdimm(...

took two heatsinks and made one massive monster heatsink. could be a passive idea if one fan on back of case.
