Comparing the specs of the Phantom350 and its 500 sibling, there is actually very little difference in current delivery between the two (with the 500 being able to deliver just 2A more on some voltage rails). The 500 has a built-in fan that kicks in at certain temperature. In that case, why did Ante...

I'm actually planning to replace the Antec Tricool fan with a Glacialtech (standard thickness). Can I use a 'less-thick' fan (compared to the lower chamber Tricool?

I certainly did not overtighten the screws and yes I am aware of that fact. With the P180 drive cage and the foam sandwich method, the only HD noise I can pick up is the seek noise. However, the foam sandwich muffles the noise much more effectively than the drive cage. This is what I was lamenting a...

Thanks for the post, ~El~Jefe~. I was thinking of using a Phantom in the lower chamber with a low-rpm fan, but since you mentioned it does not get too warm under stress, I wonder if I can do without the fan. And is it worth it to go for the higher Phantom500? How about the Thermaltake though? It has...

Gosh! No one here with a P180 and uses a fanless PSU???

I've been looking around and it seems that only Antec and Silverstone make fanless PSUs worth mentioning (Thermaltake doesn't get much mention here). How are the failure rates of current Phantom models (users' feedback plz)?

Cheers!

Abit, Asus, Gigabyte: All of them told me over the phone that a dual core chip often does not "post" with a new board. How come then mine successfully POST the first time? Whoever told you that must not have known what they were talking about (or you somehow understood all of them wrong). Regards.

ASUS A8V-Deluxe.

I had no problem getting it to recognise my X2. Just had to flash the BIOS to the latest (v1014) to get CnQ working.

"The VIA K8T800 consumes about half the wattage and produces half the heat" Part of the reason I went with a VIA chipset is exactly that: the lower power consumption (and hence heat generation). I have all the performance I need and it is perfectly stable. I can understand the reason why the masses ...

A fanless PSU for the P180

Currently using the TP330 (lower chamber fan not used). I've been contemplating whether changing to a fanless PSU and using a low-rpm Glacialtech fan in the lower chamber will make significant difference in accoustics. Should I? Also, what fanless PSU would you recommend (efficiency-, price- and rel...

As an owner of a Seagate 7200.8 250GB PATA drive, I can attest that the drive is not quiet (though not so noisy that you have a reason to RMA it). Previously I sandwiched the drive in foam and fixed it at my case bottom. In that configuration, the drive is close to silent (little bits of seek noise ...

It will be perfectly fine fanless. I myself am running a X2 3800+ with the Ninja (fanless) in a P180 - the only nearby fan is an exhaust rear fan. Temperature idles around 33-35C (CnQ disabled) with load never surpassing 40C.

Regards.

well you bought it. ack. I mean its an ok case and all. However, your previous use of foam or suspending the hds is by far the best way to go. I admit the foam method was so effective the supposedly effective drive cage of P180 does not compare to it. I am tempted to try the same foam sandwich meth...

Finally crumbled and purchased the P180. After a few hours of re-assembling (and tidying the PSU cables - with little obvious success), I got the thing running. How much do you think PC Maniacs charge for shipment outside Victoria (i.e. to Sydney)? I can't find an exact shipping cost for the P180 on their site. I'm going to compare the overall price to auspcmarket (who absorb all shipping cost to Sydney).

Is there anywhere in Australia I can get a black P180 BTW? Also, which case would be more ideal for use with a fanless PSU? For the 3000B, I can think of a rear fan blowing out with a fan on the CPU HSF blowing towards the former (a push-and-pull config). For the P180, in trying to strictly keep to ...

1) Having gone the X2, why go the budget option now? :) The P180 airflow seems perfect for a passive Ninja setup. 2) If you go the SLK 3000B you would have to remove or mod the CPU air duct, given the height of the Ninja. 3) Also using a rear fan blowing onto the Ninja in a SLK 3000B might recircul...

P180 or SLK3000B?

Having just upgraded to an X2 setup plus Scythe Ninja for the CPU, I realise that my current case is too restricting in airflow and chassis fan choice (80mm only). I find them very silent and much more affordable than the competition. The fan does indeed run at 900+rpm@12V and hence the quiet operation. Looking forward to your further reply then.

Would this problem have anything to do with my memory running at 2x166MHz (CAS2)? I can't get it to run at 2x200MHz (even at CAS 2.5), since the mainboard BIOS seems to prefer the lower latency as opposed to the higher bandwith.

Ambient room is around 20-23C, will be more if I turn on the room heater. Anyway, the 92mm fan on the 80mm fan bracket is only a temporary measure. I need something that 'inhales' more cold air and is not so noisy. Poor my Antec PSU... it is exhausting very warm air all the time. What case (with acc...
