Funny how people are saying that the i7 cannot be cooled passively as this is exactly what I'm doing with my i7-860 under a Megahalem. With just a 900rpm Glacialtech fan blowing out of my trusty P180, I am getting 30-35C idle and no more than 60C at load. I do have the top intake hole open/uninhabit...

I re-installed the sinks by first removing the Accelero S1 itself and, with free access to the sinks, putting enough pressure directly on them. AS paste apparently does keep them in place. I also replaced the slow-moving Noctua with a Glacialtech fan (which cools better and is still silent enough). ...

I'd personally slap an Accelero S1 (and a good quiet fan) on the card. It will work out more quietly than any of the stock solutions. Between the HIS and Powercolor card, I'd give a nod to the latter just because the RAM-sinks and VRM-sinks do not need to (cannot, to be more exact) be replaced by th...

I got to open the case today and guess what. 3 (out of 4) VRM heatsinks as well as 1 RAM-sink have apparently come off the board! Talk about lousy adhesive power. AS3 on the chips hardly helped in keeping the sinks attached. I had to use quite a lot of IPA to induce the adhesive-ness back. Even then...

Sounds like it could be hardware related then. The threads have a whole bunch of tips and tweaks for all users of AGP cards, but they're buried in amongst a lot of guff, so wading through them is a slog (and might not even help) This is a long shot, but do you have access to another PC that you cou...

Zorander, consider yourself lucky to have gotten good performance to date as there are some massive issues concerning ATI HD3850 AGP cards. For some constructive advice read these (they're looong stickied old threads, so start at the end and work backwards); http://www.vgaforum.com/showthread.php?t...

As you say definitely check out the driver thing though. I did some quick googling but saw nothing about a general instability of the Catalyst suite. I have just upgraded to the 9.3 Hotfix driver so we'll see how things fare (but I am sure this is a heat-related issue nonetheless). Tomorrow though ...

It might actually work, but I am not sure if you want to take changes with your card. By chances, I suppose you mean the potential damage from the high likelihood of bridging the chips with the paste? I do have some AS3 (which I read is much less electrically-conducting than AS5) or is that still a...

You didn't recently upgrade Catalyst did you? A friend of mine using a 3850 has had no end of problems with unpredictable crashing during games recently and he seems fairly sure that is the culprit for one reason or another. Could be worth a Google. I did upgrade my catalyst (9.2 currently). Well, ...

Need help to re-apply (-stick) heatsinks from Accelero S1

Hi all, I have lately been having trouble with my system crashing at random intervals during games. My suspicion lies on my AGP HD3850 (w/ Accelero S1), specifically on the VRM heatsinks. One of them is not sticking strongly enough (it may have come off now but I can't ascertain it until I open the ...

I am now considering replacing the Powercolor with a Hightech (HIS) . The reason is not about the Powercolor's stability (which is now rock-stable) but image quality. On my trusty Sony CRT, the Powercolor is exhibiting some sort of 'smearing' on the display. Against a white and, to a lesser degree, ...

Crashes with Powercolor 3850 AGP & Accelero S1 - HELP!

Hi all, I recently upgraded my video card to the above and slapped on the Accelero S1 on it, re-using the stock VRM heatsink and the strip of copper that covers the RAM chips surrounding the GPU (some pictures here ). Quieter fan on HIS x1950Pro card?

Hi all, I am considering swapping the HSF unit on this card (picture here ) with something quieter and hopefully even more efficient. At 27% fan speed, it is still noticeable in my relatively quiet bedroom and temperature hovers around 50C at idle. I don't know if the temperature is acceptable but I...

For those of you who have opened the PSU up, is the stock fan of standard thickness or is it of a slimmer build? I plan to get this case and fan-swap the PSU with a quieter model.

Hi again, I have decided to stick to a s939 build as per my original post. Thanks for the reply. You piqued my interest in going with an AM2-based setup. I'm thinking the CPU and RAM that I already have are worth around the $100 mark and a HDMI-/DVI-/VGA-enabled motherboard will allow me a further saving of around $50 (I planned on a 3450 card with HDMI output). That's abo...

How much hotter is a X2 4600+ over the X2 3800+? (s939)

Hi all, I just bought an upgrade CPU for my current system and was wondering how much of an increase in temp I should be expecting. What exactly is the difference between the SATA (I) and SATAII?

Also, when you talk about power consumptions of 750GB drives, do they consume considerably more power than 250GB drives in general?

250GB is no longer enough for me. I need to get a new one, with a budget of around AUD$250 (I believe that should get me a 500GB or perhaps 750GB model). What would you recommend? I set ATITool to set idle fan speed down to 27% (default values for the rest).

Idle GPU temp: 40C
Load GPU temp: 55C

For comparison sake, my X2 3800+ runs at 25-28C idle & 40C at load.
