I wonder what the jitter is like, and weather its affected by revving up a power tool on the same electrical breaker :D

Re: Widespread Laptop Whining / Buzzing problem

Might as well post an update :^) I have long given up on laptops as a primary workstation. For reasons of: - Lack of IPS Displays - non-upgradable graphics, very few dedicated GPUs in thin & light, usually comes with a loud fan - coil whine, coil whine, coil whine - a lot of creative stupidity in ne...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 6: Recall

Why not offer people a free PCI-E SATA6 device instead of recalling the boards? Wouldn't that be cheaper for them?

Let the customer choose which option they prefer

How long can a car battery power delivery 500 Watts for[?]

I don't know how to calculate this. I'm wondering how long I can run a 500 Watt load (430Watts + 12V inverter inefficiencies) on a decent car battery. First of all, I guess I need the amp-hours rating of the car battery (can't be derived from cold cranking amps I'm assuming) any suggestions (other t...

Yep, it is it's biggest problem. I think while USB 3.0 is not implemented in the Intel chipsets, it will not be widely available in battery time oriented laptops. eSATA on the other hand would have been possible for a few penny more at the factory. Yeah I just noticed myself that this laptop doesn'...

The purpose of the primary hard drive sleeping?

Am I the only one who thinks it's crazy to have hard drives sleep (particularly in laptops)? I mean, in my experience, it's just gonna spin right back up again 5 seconds later for some random windows function or other background application. I can appreciate the usefulness of HD sleep on a system wi...

Is there no coil whine on that motherboard?

I've got the same Asus board (except it's not the "-E" version) with a Core i5 750 and I've got noticeable whine, however I "fixed" it by disabling Intel C-State and Intel Speedstep in the bios. Gives me 10C higher on idle, but hey, sanity is well worth it.

That's a nice read. I've been thinking of making my own writeup about laptops, relative to coil whine, poor panel quality, and strange choices in bad touchpads and keyboards design (not to mention the rarity of high end graphics in compact notebooks, even with the emergence of hybrid/switchable grap...

Okay so I just got this (the Radeon 5470 version). Thus far I agree with whats been said. I take back my worried about the screen. It's average, but not really annoying so far, could deal with this easily. As for the noise, the fan seems smooth ... 2 fans + (I'm assuming 2 heat sink assemblies) is a...

dunno if it will be enough, but thermaltake makes a fanless notebook cooler that is a pad that has some wierd salt substance that turns to liquid when heated ( so as for the liquid to flow around the pad and make the heat distribution more even) you may want to look into it. 3 years after I created this thread, I'm still annoyed as heck about this problem. about 70% of the laptops I've tried have coil whine, including brand new 2010 units. Yes, AUO322C. There is very small selection of display manufacturers, and they really don't differ that much. I can't tell a difference between the 1280x800 display from LG of my previous 13.3" Toshiba, compared to the current 1366x768 AUO display in Acer. All 13.3"'s are TN, so there is no good la...

Simply play a random sound on repeat in Windows Media Player (Could be a silent MP3).

It completely silents the coil whining and only puts minimal stress on the CPU :-)

RMclock alternative?

I used this:
http://www.flipfire.net/download/rtcore64.zip

to get RMclock's signed x64 driver to run in windows 7. Unfourtunately I don't think it supports Core i3 Cpus.

I need something to do the "RUN HLT COMMAND" so my stupid laptop stops whining!!!!

yes, I'm also very angry at the number of low-quality display panels recently. PW-200-M vs PicoPSU

Is there any reason someone would choose a PicoPSU, instead of something like the PW-200-M (200 Watts)?

I need something small for a 45W AMD build.. I'm guessing total system power will be around ~90 at load.

I'm gonna use the Dell Y2515 with modded connector.
