I'm trying to get a ship date. Here's the mail: Awesome! I can't wait. Are you aware of the release date, or is that confidential? Thanks, [poet] Hi [poet], The exact release date is a tentative one. But what is sure is that it should be announced in two weeks. Also, please calculate the time for th...

Given the problems others have encountered with the Gigabyte 6600, perhaps you should look into another passive 6600 option, like this, this, or this.

I just posted the 6600 link because you were so concerned about your budget, I didn't want to stretch it too far... 1Gb of RAM should be fine, but if you're going to spend that much on a card, you can get better (just not quieter). You will gain a lot of performance by going for a card like this . T...

As far as the Spinpoint is concerned, I think it depends on the motherboard. If you read further, you'll notice the majority of people have had success. I wonder if that poor fellow might have a vanilla NF4 board, which does not support SATA II like the SLi and Ultra chipsets. The lack of fins exten...

Thermalright V-1 Revision

I shot a quick inquiry to Thermalright about their V-1 cooler, and this is what I got (both messages quoted directly): ---- Original Message ----- Hey guys, Long time very satisfied Thermalright customer here (from the slk days). I need to cool down a 7800GT, and I'm wondering if the V-1 will cut it...

Congrats on the new system! A couple things jump out at me right away: 1. Are you going to use SLI? If you're not, I've had very good experiences with ABit's AN8 Ultra (passive heatpiped NB), might save you a few dinero. NewEgg link 2. Thermalright SI-120 is not only a more compatible than the XP-12...

The GT is just a better purchase. Better bang for the buck, and it is easier to silence than the GTX or the GTX 512. And you can never have too much RAM. The spinpoint and what kind of storage you need is entirely up to you but couldn't hurt if your loudest component is that DiamondMax. 1. The GTX ...

2. I don't really need the extra space, it's really more of a luxury

Nope, it just adds the appropriate power connector for the 7800. I do not know if there are any other optimizations over the Rev.2, but I figured, why take the chance?

How about an SI-120 (same company, same performance, no compatibility issues)? Also, the Tri-Cool doesn't have a three pin power connector. I'd go with a Nexus 120mm and crush the solid corners with a pair of pliers before I'd replace the Tri-Cool's power connector. <---voice of experience edit: yes...

I had an SI-97 on my last Socket A machine (Athlon XP 3000+ @2.4 GHz), and it performed like a champ. Heck, it dropped 10c off the temps I was getting with a MUCH heavier Swiftech. Things I like about the SI-97a -really, really light -simple install -best temps for any Socket A heatsink -looks cool ...

I just hate to be like everyone else here with an SLK3000B/P180/P150. Although if they start shipping the P150 w/out a PSU...I'm quite satisfied with the Antec Neo HE500 in my current machine :)

Yes, although the impression I get is that the Rev.3 is mearly a Rev.2 with a 7800 power connector. Somehow, the sample I have doesn't have the same fan problems I read about with the Rev.2, so maybe it's just a QC issue...

Aftermarket GPU Cooling, Zalman v. Arctic Cooling

I thought this might be a useful community resource. Please no flaming, keep things on topic, and for gosh sakes, please explain your answers. If your Zalman is too loud, please be specific, say why, what kind of noise it makes at what voltage, and whether or not you've subsequently swapped the fan....

I've read the the ATI Silencers' ticking noise has something to do with the power delivery on the Radeon cards. There is no way for me to verify this, however, since I no longer own an ATI card. As I do not have a Zalman I cannot comment on that cooler. I can, however, react to the above observations of the AC NV Silencer Rev.3. My particular example cools the gpu (at 100% the Silencer drops temps 24c off the stock copper 6800GT Leadtek cooler) and the case very well (7-9c drop at idle/load...
