Re: 8200?

True, but I'm also trying a 65nm c2d as well. I'm being feisty all-round  I was referring to the 45nm stock HSF being lower profile than the 65nm HSF. Are you saying you are going to try the chip or the retail HSF? I have trouble believing the latter will even fit . . . Absolutely no, no. I'm ...

gtx280 is installed, but I have to run the stock intel + Zotac coolers for the next two weeks. My ears are bleeding!

In other news, I'm adding an 8800GTS 512 to it Monday. Should be good for some points

My G92 heated up the room, I sent it back fast. Oh I hate AMD. They 790FX chipset can handle 4 PCI-E slots with 8 lanes each, but their newer 790GX chipset? The more efficient one? I've only seen boards with that chipset with 2 PCI-E slots. Always one step forward, 2 steps back. And the new 45nm Ph...

Actually many people run 2 instances of SMP on a quad processor. What does the GPU client use, then? From my (limited) experience, the GPU needs a core. re: hyperthreading- that's going to be up to you. The processor will run hotter and burn more power with it on, but having the extra threads avail...

Am I correct that I will run one instance of the GPU2 client and one instance of the SMP client? And that I should turn Hyperthreading off on the quad-core i7? I'll be running a version of Windows: Windows 7 64-bit is what I'm going to try first. I'll dual boot with XP 32-bit if and when I have to....

Not if I undervolt it ;)

Mostly I'm after the number of shaders (128)/ shader clocks; the rest is going to be fairly well underclocked.

Found a cheapie open box 8800gts (g92). Should be a good solution with its 128 stream processors and an Accelero S1 passive.

bonus: it's a killer PhysX card, too ;)

Re: STILL not dead.

Hello. I like to check in once a year or so. :-| Actually I plan on making a re-appearance as I am building a new machine. The 2.4GHz Northwood is being replaced with a Core i7 920 and an NVidia 9600GT graphics card. I see that I have slipped to 44th place, which is no surprise given my 6 year old ...

I ordered an 'Asus EN9600GT Silent' for a new rig I'm building. I'm not a gamer so I thought this was massive overkill, but now that I've read up a bit on GPU2, I wish I'd bought a card with a 9800GTX+ GPU. The 9600GT is 100% passive so won't add any noise to my system, but I've been reading that s...

Most efficient GPU settings for 511 point WUs?

PPD avg. goes from 6100 to 3800 when going from <400 point workloads to 511 point WUs. Any advice on accelerating the larger loads?

Well, I decided to give this one a try. It looks to me like a side-blowing cooler will work best as a down-blowing one will fight with the PSU, so I went with this cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835114075 I imagine exhausting the CPU air into the side-mounted exhaust f...

I'm rather annoyed and disappointed that Neil is probably the only SPRC staff that folds anymore. The worst part about that is a decent GPU can complete a WU in a few hours, so even earning 500 PPD for just 1 WU per day is a minimal expense. Yep, if I cant get one o' the good ones I'll go down to a 9600GT with a passive cooler. I might do that anyway, as the wattage seems a fair bit less.

Nah, 280 is actually more efficient than my power-hungry 8800, and I do use it for gaming every once in a while ;) The other use for this machine is as a recording rig, and cache does help with that, especially when processing many tracks at a time. I'll probably have a 9600GSO for full-time folding...

This is likely the last major milestone for the current rig (started folding it about 1.5 mo. ago). The next one will be a dual-GPU Folding monster.

Rig Update-- Folding Qs

The kids are getting my current rig minus GPU (donated to another folder). I'm upgrading to a q9550, 8Gb DDR2 and a GTX280 (same H2o cooling, more soundproofing= yay me!). Here's the deal. I want to run 2x GPU clients: one on the 280 and another on a dedicated folding card (4x electronic PCI-e slot)...

I am leaning towards the P182. Theres a few things though. Finally, I have been eyeing the CM V8 for the heatsink ...

1x SMP, 1x GPU2.

I had a few stability issues today, so things were not as they could have been. I think that's going to be a pretty large anomaly-- I've been averaging around 8-9k.
