First thing - get more RAM. That's your botteneck at the moment. XP and all of the glopped on dlls, etc...will consume 250MB to 300MB or more of your 512MB. Many games will disk thrash with less than 1GB total sys memory ...and some like to see 1.5GB or more...of course, if you are running 98SE, tha...

I couldn't do this. I'd be tempted to keep a baguette nearby.

Oil has been used for cooling other systems for a long time.
- the electrical transformer hanging from the pole outside your house.
- also used occasionally for temperature testing of ICs.

I guess it really boils down to your level of "good enough".

If I run WoW at it's highest level of detail with AA and AF on max, my system (2800+ Barton, 1GB RAM, 6600GT) will bog down. But, at moderate vid quality, it plays just fine.

Anyway, below is a test, which compares the 9800 Pro with many of the newer cards. According to this test, it appears, that to fully take advantage of the newer cards, you'll also want to upgrade the CPU etc  8) So depending on what upgrades you plan to do in the future... The test: http://w...

No place for a fan...maybe you've got a special sonata II then ;-)

From the Antec Sonata IIweb page:

Cooling System:
- 1 rear 120mm Tricool fan (standard) with 3-speed control to balance quiet with cooling
- 1 front 120mm case fan (optional) 25mm thick

An intake fan mounted in front of the HDD will drop the temp to something reasonable...as 65C is NOT! :-)

Check out the recommended fan page for a slow moving and quiet 120mm fan.

small fans, like 60mm, need to run fast in order to get the cfm needed to cool the gpu. 6800rpm is zooming!

43C is a pleasantly low temp. is that at idle or while gaming, etc...?

Everest Home Edition.

Provides temps, voltages, fan speeds. Collects all of the system hardware config data together as well.

Apparently, since they reviewed the 7800GTX :-) "When the 7800GTX launched, the claim existed that although the GPU had more transistors and more horsepower, the 24-pixel pipelines allegedly did not consume more energy than the 6800 Ultra. This turned out to be true, and since then, we have wanted t...

It'll be interesting to see when game companies start to make use of dual core cpu abilities..until they do, go with a reasonably priced single core cpu, and a mobo that will allow you to drop in a dual core cpu later when the price drops. Games are starting to consume a lot of system RAM... WoW, fo...

I think a stock 3000+ should cover this, i guess i only wanted the extra power for dvd ripping. Sort of on-topic...I wonder where the limiter will be in ripping speed for your system? - Needing a CPU faster than 3000+? - The FSB speed /memory management? - The speed of your HDD/ data transfer rate?...
