Antec neo HE 430w has 32A 12V capacity, more than enough for any single video card system including upcoming R600 etc, even most SLI systems would run off it if antec were nice enough to include a 2 pcie connector (They don't).

Try my psu calculator instead. Still work-in-progress but theres no inflated numbers.

Though i can already guess that your system will be fine even on a seasonic s12 330w.

12V1+12V2 = 8+14 = 22A, see your fine :) Besides its just a rough guide, nvidia suggests the same requirement for the 7900gtx as well (350w / 22A) which uses about twice as much power as the 7900gs. With the right cpu (say a64 x2 3800+ 35w) you could run stable on a 15A 12V rail / 200w psu, or with ...

I'd assume the forton would be about 80% efficient at load, so 261w in 3dmark06 x 0.8 = 208W, pretty damn close :) x850xt speed is fixed. The final # is how much power is drawn on the 12 right? Great job! Where it says dual cpu = quad core? Or is it if you have an X2 or C2d dual? Kind of confusing. ...

Yep I'll add TDP's to the model listings definitely to make it easier, thing is your assuming that TDP = power consumed which it isn't. For many processors AMD in particular, the actual power consumption can be a lot lower than TDP values, since the TDP is excessive to begin with (absolute worst cas...

New PSU Calculator - Watts and 12V amps

I've been working on a PSU calculator based on measured results off reputable sites, focus is on being as accurate as possible. SPCR users might notice that most average systems are recommended by the calculator to run on 200-350w PSU's. So far main features are (some unique): * Works out wattage an...

I'd actually trust a bigger system on the neo HE 380w than the hiper 580w. The neo HE 380w has 28A combined 12V rail, compared to 30A for hiper 580w. However hiper overvolts the 5V rail so you can't safely use the full 30A unless you've got a heap of hard drives to make up the 5V load. For a typical...

The sp2.0 350w should have 25A total 12V capacity. It has to have at least 21A since the obselete model it replaced had that (atx1.3 compliant) and atx2.0 calls for 25A/300w total 12V capacity for a 350w model of which the sp2.0 complies with. Also don't trust a psu calc over actual measured values....

True, but with the cpu powering off the 5V rail, your 12V rail draw is going to be about 5A less than other typical systems, so 13A should be fine.

With dual 7950's you'll have to choose carefully as most dual 12V rail psu's won't work at all (two lots of 7950 will have more than 20A current draw on 12V1). The antec neo HE 500/550w would be the easiest solution, but you've already put that one out. The thermaltake toughpower 600w will do the jo...

A seasonic s12 430w could handle 2 7900gt's easy with adapters. Really theres no need for a 450w psu when a 7900gt is only drawing 50w-60w peak on its own. Nvidia's suggested requirements are 350w / 22A for a 7900GTX, a 7900gt could run on less provided its a quality brand psu. http://www.xbitlabs.c...

Probably not a psu related issue. When runing 4 sticks of ram, the bios needs to be set to 2T command rate (command per clock disabled), and system won't be at all stable on 1T (except a couple of DFI boards that managed). Make sure you've done that :)

yes but OP said
Once the O/S was almost finished starting up it would access the CD drives (to pre-read the disks, I guess) and at that point the Phantom 350 would immediately shut down.
Indicating scsi hard drives aren't the problem since they've already spun up long before its into windows.

Nope don't thinks it that. That might make sense if it shut down when the hard drives are spinning up (ie straight away). Hard drives draw as much as 2A when spinning up, decreasing to around 500mA once they're running at full speed. so startup draw = 14A, draw when cdrom spins up = 7A perhaps. Perh...

Should be a fair bit quieter, neo HE is almost as quiet as seasonic. As long as the psu is current stock it should be revisions A3 or later, which shouldn't have any compatability issues unless your running off onboard video.

provided you have a good case setup with well routed cables around the psu intake fan (inside the case), the psu generally runs at fairly low rpm. Its quiet in my system. Not sure how it would compare to the Hyper, probably not heaps better.

lol! a 7300gs is like the lowest end on the market, most people don't realise how dramatically power consumption varies depending on what you've got. Yep. just plug the 20pin straight in, they'll be 4 pins missing but it will work ok for that system. Its more when your running high end videocards that issues can arrise with 20 vs 24pin, but generally its not a problem as long as psu can maintain stable voltages as yours should (cheaper make old u...

The seasonic will handle that fine, sure the cpu is doing 150w+ overclocked, but the rest of the components are pretty light power wise. Power draw would like be around 250-275WDC under load perhaps. I'd suggest an antec neo HE 500w, its quiet and can run crossfire properly (unlike dual 12V rail psu's - assuming they actually are).

Also i'd suggest a different motherboard, the asus a8r32-mvp would do much better since its a newer RD580 board. DFI rdx200 doesn't even do sata2/ncq :!:
