Thermalright Ultra 90 or Scythe Mine?

Hi all,
I’m building a new system for a friend based on a Core 2 Duo E6600 and i would like to know: Will the cooling provided by a thermalright ultra 90 for socket 775 with a Nexus 90mm be sufficient or it would be better to go for a Scythe Mine?
TIA

Well, i have an ATI Silencer5 Rev2 on my X850 XT and it's been working ok for 8 months (keep my fingers crossed). However, the fan is not connected to the vga card but it gets 7Volts from a 12V->7V cable. There's been a big debate about Zalman and AC in this site, so by searching this forum you'll g...

Probably the buzzing sound is due to the PWM regulated voltage. I had hooked an ATI AC5 on a fan mate2 which now is permanently connected on a 7Volt converter cable and in both cases I have never heard a buzzing sound.

For a good price in Nexus have a look at http://www.silentpcshop.nl/ I know it's NL not UK but given the exchange rate beteen Euro and GBP it may be cheaper to get it from there. I've bought several 80mm and 92mm Nexus fans and i can tell that even at 12V they are almost inaudible.

Hi there, 1. Fanmate's 2 heatsink is required since the circuit consumes power (and it is dissipated as heat) in order to drop the voltage fro12V to your desired setting. By removing the heatsink you endanger the whole circuit to die by heat. 2. Yes, there are cable converters from 12V to 7V, so if ...

[dCrypt] I had no problems installing my ATI Silencer5 rev2 on my X850XT. It fits like a glove but yes you lose the next pci slot. It is very quiet and my temps are also ok http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=29608&start=30 (better than the stock cooling) given that i run the fan at 7Vo...

If you want to get rid off the clicking noise, donnot connect the fan header to the vga's fan header but instead connect it to either a fanmate2 or a 7Volt cable converter.

[rei] Yes, i could have connected the AC5 to the card's fan header and control it with atitool. But after having read this http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=61&data=6&disc= and various reports that the fan of the AC5 died after some time due to the voltage peaks sent by the LM63 i decided t...

[QuietOC] I tested the fan of the X850XT (in the open air and not inside a pc case) using a sunbeam rheobus fan controller and it is very noisy. Even at 5Volt the fan makes an annoying noise (not a whinning noise but something like gggrrr). At 7Volt the stock fan sounds like a vacuum cleaner. So it'...

Hi,
i have connected my AC5 to a 7V fan connector and it works ok. However you will have to "twist" either the AC5 header or the pin header from the 7V cable in order to match the color of the cables (ie red with red and black with black).

Judging from the AC5's header polarity which is the same like the stock cooler i think that you have to reverse the order of the cables if you use a normal fan (ie ground in red and dc (5V or 12V) in black). During the weekend i will connect the original hsf of X850XT on a rheostat (not a PWM) and i...

[Copper] This is impressive, I haven't seen something like that before, i mean i've seen "naked" pcs (without a case) but all of them were positioned horizontally and not vertically. I'm just curious how the vga card stays in place, just by simple friction with the vga slot or is it suspended in som...

Well, finally the AC5 has been installed on the X850XT :D . It gets 7Volts from the PSU through a cable converter. At 12Volts the AC5 is fairly loud, not like the stock cooler but loud. Feeding it from the PSU i have no clicks. At 7Volts the AC5 is almost inaudible (at least to my ears). I could hav...

[Copper],
Sorry to hear about that. Have you tried 120mm Nexus or Glacialtech fans which are considered very quiet?
So what do you plan to do now?
The replacement card has just arrived and i have ordered an AC5 but i'll have to wait for 10 days because it was out of stock.

[Copper] Yes, i was not kidding about the card being noisy. You got it right how to get rid off the whinning noise of the fan when you use atitool (tick "Do not change PWM base frequency (X850)"). However, if you choose to install ati tray tool to control the fan speed you will not have this high pi...

Help quieting an X850XT

Hi all, This is my first post though I’ve been a long time reader. This site has helped me a lot in quieting my pc (see signature), well quiet until yesterday. Yesterday I received my new Powercolor x850xt agp vivo as an upgrade to my Asus 9600XT vga. Before ordering the card I had read various revi...
