Great temps.
19.4 C seems like a nice cool room.

Obviously that duct is obstructing the PSU fan? Have you tested with the duct off and the case fan on the HS.

Memory bed pad foam WOW.

After having my hard drive suspended with elastic cords I was happy.
I got a sample of 3cm memory foam pad, I took my drive out of the suspension and set it on the pad. It sunk in about 5 mm It worked much better than I expected. An improvement over the suspension.

In terms of cards themselves, you may want to reconsider. If this is a platform you're sticking with for a few years, the 7800GS is the best you can get. However, if it's just something to hold you over for a few months, the 6800(vanilla) and the X1600 cost about half as much and are still magnitud...

Are you completely positive a pre-cut Acusti-Pack kit for the P180 would be superior to their Deluxe V2 version? I thought their pre-cut kits used their Standard Noise-Dampening Material, I don't know for sure though. Yes. Having done several AcoustiPack case jobs. The pre cut kits are so much simp...

This is a great point. The OP mentioned dual core, so I thought he might like that on his upgrade path, but its just extra cost right now..some reason in my mind only DVI video is acceptable, so a 754 board and some form of DVI would be great.

I would only want to control my CPU fan with the motherboard bios. The T-Balancer XL is a full featured fan controller. And it has fun temperature sensors you can monitor your hard drives, or other odd parts with in a centralized way. My antec smart power is itself loud. Maybe yours is newer and not...

Update bios uninstall Nvidia firewall. You should stop needing that extra card.

I agree. Look in to the BIOS. I would turn off every thing like the nic, the ports, look closely at the APCI, wake upevents. rom etc. settings. This would be a good step in trouble shooting.

Re: Building new rig around P180 - advice needed!

Top of the case I'm thinking of sticking large passive HS like the Scythe on my AMD 3700+ No. Under load, like gaming you will need to have more than 120mm fan on more than low to help pull the heat out of your case. A fan on med (9v) ducted with the ninja should work. I would recommend that you le...

yes. the bottom mount fan can be used to better cool your CPU.
I dont know if thats a mod.
Depending on the MB/HSF you could still use a duct from the front that just extended to the bottom of the PSU.

I think with the P180 you need at least two fans. One fan on the rear vent. Good idea to have a 3rd as a back up on the Ninja its self. The other in the lower bay. If you have a P150 or Sonata you could use just one, with one back up on the CPU. Passive: You could think about a Pentium M. and a pass...

if you use the trays in the p150 you can use 4 harddrives drive.
you shuold give that a try.
Chances are you have one hard drive (or two) that is much louder than the others. For no reason other than age.

I do not think that cable is very good. I don’t think the 7v mod is a very good thing to promote when they could just have used a resistor.

I think you used the wrong screws in the PSU or the bottom hard drive bay or maybe the duct? Check to see if they are pushing the sides out, making it hard to open. but maybe just the heat did it?

No grill is the best for air flow. I would guess effect of the grill is proportional to its distance away from the fan it is. It would be interesting to test the effects of a grill at the end of a duct, an open duct and a fan at the beginning of the duct. I suspect the flow restriction of a fan blow...

Really you have to take each thing at a time.
Stop each fan see how much noise it makes…

Yes, your Northbridge fan may be loud, I also have no idea about the noise level of that PSU.
Rather than replace your video card heat sink, I would sound insulate / foam the case.

hard drives ?

what hard drives do you have?
If you are going for silent (ie. Passive TOP) you need to think about treating your hard drives. Or a new quite hard drive.
If you are just looking for something quite, the stock 7900 GTX fan is not bad.
Are you thinking about treating your case.

The stock fan on my BFG 7800 is not so loud. It is *not* silent. The pitch it makes is very middle range. I have foamed the inside of my case and don’t hear it over slight high pitch hard drive noise. If you have 3 or four hard drives I don’t think you will notice the fan on the 7800.

Not to be brash, I just don’t think it’s a good idea to use paper as the permanent duct. Even if the CPU is not going to get hot the voltage regulators and such may.
Maybe you should consider some glad ware, or plastic bottles.
