I would really love to get a samsung - but that isn't the case. They're kinda hard-to-find in Canada. I also considered 2.5" drives, but at $70, the 250GB WD is a much better value. In fact, NCIX doesn't have many 2.5" drives left in stock, let alone any samsungs. As said before, I'm getting the P18...

Re: Advice on new P182 build
Unfortunately, no Newegg for me - I live in Canada. I'm buying from NCIX.com (with two convenient pricematch locations) If you've mentioned this in another thread I apologize, but what will this computer be used for? If you're not doing a lot of gaming or 3D work, a lower-end video card like the Ge...

"IMO, you should RMA the PSU and not go futzing around inside of it. If the fan speed regulator is borked ANY fan will be loud in there."

Advice on new P182 build: ALMOST DONE! (Kind of.)
Update III Budget is now $1500 with tax (ie. $1327). Current configuration below comes to about $930 without hard drive(s) or video card. With this slightly relaxed budget in mind, here are the main questions that remain: Q1 : CPU/MOBO - I don't think the DS3R needs to be upgraded. What do you thin...

Question about SOLO.
Q: Will the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme fit in a SOLO? (blowing back)
I see someone's used the original Ultra-120 in the General Gallery but see no mention of Extreme's compatability.

Which Yate Loon is quieter for horizontal airflow?
D12BL-12: ball bearing ($5.63)

specs say that
D12BL-12 is 1200RPM 45CFM 24DB
D12SL-12 is 1350RPM 47CFM 28DB

alright - seems like the only way to go is to wait for the July pricedrops. Asus passive vga cards are out of stock, so.... Gigabyte 8600GT Passive (includes supcom) looks like a good choice - is it worse, equal, or better than the 7900GS? (disregarding dx10 capabilities) Also, what is HDCP and do I...

thanks for all the input so far. 1) Yes, I will overclock. How much remains to be seen - my current setup (see signature) has very limited overclocking options and hasn't really contributed much to my learning. 2) I probably should step down to a 7600GT passive - after all, the most recent game I've...

1st build - initial planning stage
This will be my first computer build - I've been running through countless forums to arrive at this initial proposal for a quiet build (which may or may not happen, not confirmed yet) budget is approx. $1500CAD supplier is NCIX.com here we go. Antec P182 Corsair HX520 ? Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi/AP ? Int...

Zalman 9500 CPU cooler....quiet and cools the mobo too, unlike linear flow coolers like the Scythe Ninja. The SPCR review implies that the Ninja walks all over the 9500 at the same noise level and that the 9500 is unacceptably loud unless you mod (which I'm not yet willing to do). Am I missing some...

I wasn't aware that any Nexus power supplies are recommended. Go for a Seasonic (unsure about wattage). Ninja seems to be a good investment - Zalmans aren't quiet enough for most SPCR members. An alternative to P150 is the SOLO (looks exactly the same except it's piano black - and we all know black ...
