The XFX passive series are as silent as you can get. The 7950GT doesn't start to throttle until the core reaches 130C, so it should be fine. I would imagine that it would run about as warm as mine.

There would be a difference, but not as much as going from an 86 to an 88. The 86 would produce more heat, but it could still be cooled passively.

I have a 7950GT with an HR-03 and there is absolutely no airflow around it. It idles at 56C with an ambient temp of about 80F. The 7950GT is a good choice if you don't plan on playing any DX10 games in the near future. If you do plan on DX10 gaming sometime soon, then the 8600 series wouldn't be bad...

I have an Intel D975XBX2 MB with the TR-Ultra 120 Extreme & 120mm fan. It does seem heavy but its fine as long as the system isn't moved around. If I were to move the system, I'd definetly want to transport it lying down (mb horizontal). As for fans, I'd go with Nexus or the Scythe S-flex fan. I us...

Nothing is supposed to happen when you plug a PSU into an outlet with nothing else connected to it. The PSU turns on only when you short pins 4 and 6 or connect it to a mobo and press the power button. I would inquire about the ticking noise with Seasonic. I have a Corsair 520HX and I notice no tick...

No, don't bother. You could do fine with even integrated video. You can run the 8500GT passively. It doesn't need a fan blowing over it. I have a 7950GT with an HR-03 and no airflow.

You will hear a high RPM Delta with or without headphones. I once had a few Vantec Tornadoes running my case way before I became a silence freak. It was not pleasant. The OCing was great, but do I really want to sacrifice longetivity and stability for a few more MHz? On top of that, the whine was an...

If you don't plan on overclocking, get the Intel DP965LT or the DP35DPM. Intel boards are known for stability and quality. I have a D975XBX2 myself and this is the best motherboard I have ever owned. May I suggest an Intel board if you're not planning on SLI - DP965LT or D975XBX2? Intel boards are the most stable boards you can buy for Intel CPUs. They are the most problem free boards I've ever used and I've used a bunch of Taiwanese boards. Most, if not, all of them have passive cooling as well.

I am not sure that 430W PSU will be sufficient and even if it will be, it will be loud as it will be running at high load. Get something like a Seasonic 600W PSU and it will be quieter. The system in question needs nowhere near 600 watts even if overclocked. An overclocked Kentsfield system with SL...

Actually, it's seek time that improves snappiness and not bandwidth. An upgrade to a Raptor would improve snappiness more than RAIDing two 7200RPM drives.

well, if you're going to run a ninja, i'd run it with a fan, just because solely a rear fan will not provide enough cooling for everything. You sure about that? A single undervolted Nexus 120 cools my entire system and my components use much more power than the system in question. I also agree with...

I have both the P180 and the Solo. The Solo is quieter because there is only one fan, so if your components aren't quiet, then the Solo won't be. The P180 is much larger and has much thicker side panels. It will heavily dampen any noise, but if all your components are near silent, then the stock fan...

Which cooler for S939 4800+?

I have a 4800+ on a DFI LP UT NF4 Ultra with a Zalman 9500 LED in an Antec Solo. I am trying to find a quieter or silent replacement for it. Does anybody have any suggestions? I am leaning toward one of Thermalright's coolers because I am running the U120X passively on my E6700.

It should fit. If a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, which is 10mm taller than the Ninja, fits in my Solo, the Ninja should clear the side panel by at least 10mm.

In the last Dell machine I worked with, the power supply was proprietary to the motherboard in that Dell used a non-standard cable in addition to a standard ATX cable. I would assume that that has not changed.
