Re: 22" monitor recommenation
This is interesting. The only reason I was choosing a 21.5 inch monitor is because I wanted to maintain the same resolution 1920x1080 since I RDP (fullscreen) into a laptop from PC1, then RDP from PC2 into PC1 and don't want to re-initiate this connection into the laptop But now I see even the 24 an...

Re: 22" monitor recommenation
Great advice! I only care about regular computer browsing, work stuff and at times, multimedia so I will focus on viewing angle and of course, power usage I did find one monitor with HDMI input. Would the audio flow over this and play in the integrated monitor speakers or would I still need separate...

22" monitor recommenation
Guys My 17" LCD on my secondary computer just got kaput and I need to replace with a 22" one, possibly with in-built speakers to save desk space. Would love a recommendation for a silent and green one and have a few questions: 1) What parameters should I be looking at in the specs? 2) Why are most m...

Re: Thoughts on Temjin TJ08B-E + Ivy Bridge Build
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm thinking of making the following changes. 1) Using the SilverStone SST-PS07B case instead of the TJ08B-E. I plan to make two modifications : 1.1) Take one of the fans from in front and put it on the rear of the case . Hopefully that will cool things well eno...

Re: Thoughts on Temjin TJ08B-E + Ivy Bridge Build
CA Steve: I heard that the IGPs don't perform great on multimonitor setups, and eventually I want 3 screens. Things as silly as the UAC "darkening screen" apparently have lag. I also might do a bit of a casual gaming. So I figured a discrete card would be good, but a fanless, relatively inexpensive ...

Thoughts on Temjin TJ08B-E + Ivy Bridge Build
Hi, I'm building a new quiet system. I was hoping to gather thoughts on my "shopping list". I've spent a few days reading about a lot of the individual components, but I don't have a good sense for how they might or might not fit or work well together. Any thoughts would be appreciated with respect ...

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
Ok, i get your point, the Shuttle case is not reusable. I've found the Coolermaster TC-100 in an Italian shop, price-wise doesn't change much, considering you have to add an heatpipe and the power adapter. Btw, do you think i will get lower temperatures with the Coolermaster case? I think that havin...

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
I've tried various setups on those websites, but the prices are higher than this prebuilt Shuttle XS35V2 i've found on Amazon.it . Back in-topic, i think that fanless systems aren't very popular for the following reasons: - most people don't care about having a fanless system as long as the fan is r...

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
I thought Optimus was not supported on this hardware. It's not a laptop and the video card is requried for digital video output. But maybe it can be made to work. If Shuttle advertises it then it should work. Yep, it's using the 8-cores version of ION. High-res digital video output without a video ...

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
You mean a mPCIe decoder? Maybe. Does it even have a mPCIe slot? What about software support? And would that be cost effective? No, i was thinking about a real video card, although they seem difficult to find. ION2 was expected to be released also in this form , but it hasn't happened yet. If you w...

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
I've read that when both GPUs are present the system can switch @ runtime from one GPU to another according to system load (and instantly power off the unused one). Thank you for pointing me to that review btw, i thought that the Atom wasn't capable of any 1080p video playback without GPU accelerati...

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
The NVIDIA ION seems an adequate GPU for both 1080p video decoding (VP4) and moderate 2D gaming.
I would like an x86 CPU, so i can run most programs i'm used to for browsing internet, etc.

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
I prefer a pre-built system 'cause i haven't much experience in assembling those little nettops, i fear of doing something wrong. The most important thing for me is the noise/price ratio. Performance-wise my only requirement is a GPU capable of hardware HD video decoding. side question: what do you ...

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
According to this AIDA64 test the XS35GT (fanless) reaches the same temp of the Asus EeeBox EB1501 (with a fan @ 25dBA on heavy load).
The test setup is not exactly the same, but they are very close indeed!
So, since the temperature is the same i would prefer the Shuttle fanless nettop.

Re: fans, with or [without] you?
Thanks for your suggestions! So the general best choice is to have a fan. Eventually it can be turned completely off with SpeedFan if external and internal temps aren't too high. But with heavy system load it's better to leave the fan running, otherwise all modern CPUs will get too hot, right? EDIT:...

Acer Veriton N282G
I'm looking for some infos about this nettop:
- fan noise measurements
- CPU+GPU temps on heavy load
- SpeedFan support
An SPCR full review would be great!

I find the idea of a fanless nettop quite attractive.
Btw, i guess this may have also disvantages, like reduced lifespan of the components and higher risk of failures.

guys
Please forgive me if this is not meant to be posted here
I'm wondering how do I use the eSata on the back of my new asus z68 board. Can I directly connect my sata HDD to it? How does it power up?
Thanks

Re: Cheaper systems
Hey Dr.Jim It appears that this case fan isn't capable of connecting into the motherboard (it has a much bigger connector). Tech support confirmed that and said I can instead manually choose High or Low setting on the fan which I set to Low Also found a link http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/...

In step 5, I tightened the screws all the way down but they aren't all in the same position - some are lower down and were able to tighten more than the others. I think the screw closest to the blue capacitors is least tightened because the capacitor is blocking the faceplate from going any lower an...
