as this is a noise oriented forum, the noise of the drive is important.
that is not to say that reliability and warranty aren't important.

my dream machine would be an ssd for the os and a large GP or other low power hdd as storage.
until the prices of SSDs come down that is.

i didn't want to suggest that the problem with the my hd is something spesific to the 6400aaks,

the problem with the 2 320gb models - where found out by spcr.

btw - the 500gb GP is single platter? how hot does it go?

maybe the differences are minor.
i thought it might be like the 2 320gb models.

it runs at 45c, when ambient is 22 (i think i'm not sure about my ac)

i bought a 6400AAKS in the past - it broke somehow. got it replaced. now i notice - the sticker on it is different then before (and also different then the one posted in the review) - it is blue and has Caviar blue written on it. not sure about the noise character so far. what are the differences (i...

new reviews like the Enermax, Nexus and such.
have much lower spl - around 11- 15.
the vx lowest is 21.
how is that there is so much of a difference? are they really ~6db lower?

hey,
a lot of feedback!

Eizo S2242 - are you insane? it's 900$!
but nice of you to suggest.

the viewsonic is nice. it got high marks but when you check the details - it gets 7\10 for picture quality.

btw - what's this TN i hear about? that the viewsonic doesn't have?

i chose fixed. you don't need to change it since generally the case temp stays the same, even if the cpu gets hot, the variations are low. alternatively, if you have big variations you might need too. if you are freak of pressure, you want the air flow to be the same through out the case - as in the...

generally the ATI are more power efficient - the 8*** of Nvidia are hotter. you need a card that has a HDTV port and can play HD. my 8600gts - silentpipe3 is a dx10 card shows HD but it doesn't have a specific port for hdmi - it has sort of s-video connection (looks like it anyway, didn't try to con...

when does a card be in idle? what process do you need to run in order for it to go out of idle?
also, it's not just the power saving but the heat the card produces - higher wattage -> higher temp.
