New PSU won't turn on - what's wrong?

I got a new Corsair HW520W (probably much bigger than I needed, but oh well), and needed to power my SATA DVD drive to eject it (the emergency eject wasn't working). I plugged in the drive, plugged in the power supply, turned on the power supply, and nothing happened. Fan didn't go on, drive didn't ...

I hate the process of returning things, not the annoyance to them, so I would reglue. I could NEVER leave it like that, especially if new. :D PS. And this is the reason why, if available, I buy locally, even though it's more expensive. If something is wrong, I just return it in my car. I hate losin...

I don't like to be that "annoying customer" but if i paid 400$ for a case i would not accept that. Yeah, I'm kind of the same way; I don't want to bother them, they're lives are hard enough, and it's not a really big deal, since everything else is fine. But I had hoped all surfaces would be flush, ...

Re: This photo suggests there are ...

Tim I was curious what a $400 case looked like, so I went to the OrigenAE site, and found this photo of the back . It looks to me as though you put the screws through the four screw holes closest to the PSU cutout. They do supply screws, for that amount of money, I take it? Regarding the finish of ...

Just bought an OrigenAE S14V case - question about quality.

I just got my new OrigenAE S14V case in the mail, and noticed that the plastic display panel on the front is not completely flush with the case... the top of the panel is flush, but the bottom is 1 or 2mm (at most) out from the case body. When I open the bay door next to it, I see that the mounting ...

How to install a PSU in a case with no mounting points?

I got a lovely OrigenAE S14V case, and will be building it this weekend. The thing is, I need to get a power supply for it, and where the power supply goes, there are no holes, brackets, etc. I'm a bit new to this, so I'm wondering, in a situation like this, what one usually does. Am I going to need...

VFD and infrared/remote control for an HTPC - can I use any?

I was thinking of trying to mod a case I bought and add a VFD and infrared remote control to it. I see a lot of items available to do this, but some are made by specific manufacturers for THEIR cases. I don't understand why this would be important, except for the fact that it *fits* physically in th...

By the way, I'm thinking of putting this ASUS mATX board in it with a Core 2 Duo E8400 (3Ghz) in it, and 1 hard drive and 1 optical drive. Do you think I can get that setup not to overheat? I'd read about overheating troubles with it sometimes, though almost all of those included a video card. I've...

Stock case PSUs versus expensive, separately purchased ones

I'm new to building PCs, but I was wondering - most cases I've seen come with their own PSUs, and I've seen lots of people here say that it's perfectly fine to use some of them (eg. I'm awaiting a Silverstone LC04 case, which I've read has a fine PSU). What I don't understand is, these cases may go ...

There's always the Antec Minuet with the 300w psu. It's not very pretty, and can be had for cheap, or cheaper if you go for one of thoes no-name spin-off of it. It actually has 2 3.5" bay but one is for the floppy. If you put a hdd in that slot, it's either gonna touch the side fan and wont fit (or...

When I google it, I get at least two that say it's in stock. I have one, and it's a very nice case. I guess that what worries me is all the major carriers no longer carry it. By the way, I'm thinking of putting this ASUS mATX board in it with a Core 2 Duo E8400 (3Ghz) in it, and 1 hard drive and 1 ...

Has Silverstone LC04 been discontinued?

Hi all...

I was looking into the Silverstone LC04 case, and I can only find one site that claims to sell it. All the others, including all the major ones, don't have it, despite the Silverstone site still listing it.

Does anyone know if they've stopped making them?

Although the E8400 is not officially supported until the 0405 BIOS, the board will boot with it in the 0301 BIOS. Put the 0405 BIOS on a FAT32 formatted flash drive and you can flash it using the built-in utility. This process is described in the user manual. Also bear in mind that the 0405 BIOS wi...

Motherboard BIOS incompatibility w/chip -- help!

So I ordered an ASUS P5E-VM HMDI motherboard from Newegg the other day, and bought an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 at a local store. I just checked the ASUS website, and see that the E8400 isn't supported until a BIOS update released in January... This is my first time building a computer, so I'm a little...

The Silverstone LC19 and ML02 are very low profile and have room for just a laptop optical drive + a 3.5" hard disk (or a suspended 2.5" hard disk in my case). You're very limited as to the coolers you can use, however. I use this Hiper heatsink with the fan running at 5V. This cools my undervolted...

Small mATX cases with only 1 3.5" drive bay - exists?

I'm looking for the smallest, well-built case I can find for a home media server. Unfortunately, all of the good cases seem to have room for 2 or 3 3.5" hard drives, and all I want is room for 1 internal 3.5" hard drive and 1 external 5.25" DVD drive, and nothing else. Very simple, but it seems all ...

i'd personally go with the asus intel matx board that has hdmi and an e8200 for proc. it's gonna be relatively low power, and relatively high performance. Unfortunately, the link you gave just gives their general configuration/order form (doesn't indicate which mainboard/etc. you were considering). (Probably have to copy and paste it into a message, or something.) One thought that comes to mind. Mac Mini I'd thought of that, but they only take 2.5" h...

Creating HTPC/NAS/Media Server - should I wait to build?

Hi all! I want to put together an HTPC/NAS/Media Server (running SlimServer for my Squeezebox, and possibly other devices around the house), and am looking for the first time for this. I'm thinking of using something along these lines (posted in my next post) with probably one of the Jetway J7F5 boa...
