A QUIET PLACE Movie

Just saw the movie A Quiet Place. It's the scariest film I've ever seen since The Exorcist. But beyond the horror and suspense, the movie also is a meditation on sound, and how we take it for granted. All the things we normally do on a daily basis without thinking about the noise they generate. It m...

Re: ECC RAM

Could someone tell me what the status of ECC RAM is on chips and boards for AMD?

I've read in a couple of places that all Ryzen procs have ECC enabled, but not sure if this is true. Or is it only Ryzen Pro series?

Thanks

New Seasonic PRIME Titanium Review

Anandtech just reviewed the new Seasonic PSU line called PRIME Titanium. Tested units: 650W, 750W, and 850W. http://www.anandtech.com/show/11252/the-seasonic-prime-titanium-power-supply-review/4 Bottom line seems to be outstanding electrical performance efficiency and build quality, but fan acoustic...

Re: Seagate Archive 8TB HD quiet?

Saltspring? Awesome. I lived on Vancouver Island (Qualicum Beach) off and on for several years, and remember the blizzard of December 1996. I'm sure the locals on Saltspring can tell you about that one. The snow from the storm shut everyone in over most of Vancouver Island for about a week. Yeah, th...

I have an unused, new Intel Xeon Processor E5-1630 v3 Quad-Core 3.70 GHz Bought in October 2015, intending to do a build then, but never got around to it. Have decided to wait for Kaby Lake. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f309/hadza/003_zpssrvptr4j.jpg Asking US $300. (CDN $400). OBO (includes wo...

Re: Thorens TD125 + SME 3009 II Fully Restored

I remember those Thorens turntables. I auditioned one at a Hi-Fi shop here in Calgary once in the late 1970s. They were up there in the same general neighborhood in terms of quality with the Linn's and Oracles. I almost bought one, but couldn't quite afford it. Decided on a Rega Planar 2 instead. Ci...

GTX 980 or Quadro K2200?

I am piecing together a light workstation build. Looking for a graphics card for a ASRock X99 Extreme 4 mobo and a Fractal Define R5 case. Using it for light to medium video editing, light 3-D modeling, with two 1440p displays and a possible third 4K display. No gaming. Hoping to have it last 3-5 ye...

Re: Fans for heatsinks and cases

What are you talking about? The OP asked about the fans for a case and for the Kotetsu. He asked which fans he could use for the case, and which for the cooler, and if there were quieter ones.

How is my question about the Kotetsu, which was very similar, "off topic"?

Just forget it.

Re: Please recommend a cooler

Are you saying that there is information about the Kotetsu in the Rock Dark Pro 3 review not present in the Kotetsu review? Well, after having to look at 3 or 4 different tables now, there appears not to be. And that's the problem. There are two or three different tables for each individual review,...

Re: Please recommend a cooler

That's bizarre. I thought all the charts topped off at 20 dB(A). Why wasn't this info included in the Kotetsu or the recommended chart? This is so confusing. Then the chart would have to be bigger, with even more empty cells. More confusion! ;) Look, since SPCR have such a nice uniform testing meth...

Re: Please recommend a cooler

Actually - if you look on the table for the Dark Rock Pro 3 (etc) review, there's a Kotetsu datapoint at 22dB(A) -> 35C rise. So, figure somewhere between 35 and 38C rise. Call it 36C rise @ 20dB and be done :D That's bizarre. I thought all the charts topped off at 20 dB(A). Why wasn't this info in...

Re: Please recommend a cooler

What would the temp rise at 20dB(A) and 18dB(A) be then? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

The Noctua NH-D15 has those data points, but not the Kotetsu. I'd like to compare them at those SPL levels.

This was the only relevant information I could find on the methodology: 8. What about the missing data points? All coolers are tested at full fan speed as well as at 1100, 900, 700 and 550 RPM (whenever possible). This usually means that the cooling performance at maximum speed is not shown on this ...

Thanks Mike. I will try and pick up both an I/O Magic and an Asus to compare. You're right, Asus has similar sounding marketing around their optical drives (e.g. E-Media http://www.asus.com/Optical_Drives/DRW24D1ST/). I hadn't noticed that before, as I haven't bought an optical drive in about 6 years.

Re: Please recommend a cooler

So any blank spaces are just the same values as the ones next to them? Then the Kotetsu would be the same 38° rise @ 20~19 dBA and @18~17 dBA. Is this correct? But I notice the NZXT Havik has the same 41° entered in both 16~15 dBA and 14~13 dBA. That's why I got confused. http://i50.photobucket.com/...

Looks like the Scythe Kotetsu has come back in stock in a few places. Yaay!
