I had the black version of the VF1000 (GV1000) on my old 8800GTX and it was a bit noisy even on low (5V with included fanmate). I'm not sure about the noise of the VF3000A with two plastic fans with a minimum speed of at 1,300rpm. Personally, I'm pretty happy with my Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X (although ...

I just picked up one of the HD203WI drives as well for HTPC storage / backup purposes. I'm in the process of copying my video library to it now, but I just thought I'd add some comments on the noise levels. The HD203WI is noticeably quieter at idle sitting on some foam on my desk when compared to th...

SPCR article on 5V / 7V trick here . Basically, you will need to swap some pins on a molex connector going to the top 200mm fan to get 7V. For your CPU cooler, if you are on a budget, I'd suggest the recently reviewed Coolermaster Hyper 212+ . You'll probably need a replacement CPU fan, as the stock...

Time for a little bit of case modding? :D Or perhaps a new case? Personally, I really like my Lian Li Q07 - the airflow is much better, even if it is a little larger. With your components, the more open vents won't really create any more sound - you might be able to hear the Shuriken's fan though. I...

What CPU cooler are you getting for the i7 930? I don't see one listed, so the stock cooler is likely to be a big noise source if you keep it... The Coolermaster Hyper 212+ is pretty cheap. With a quiet Nexus fan or two instead of the stock fan, you should be able to keep that CPU cool enough while ...

The dual 80mm rear exhausts on the Centurion 541 case are not ideal.

Personally, I'd go for the Coolermaster Elite 341 (US$45) over the case you linked to. Cut out the front and rear 120mm fan grills and cover up the side 120mm fan holes with some perspex or something like that.

When you mention top exhaust, I'm assuming you mean the top fan? Should it blow down or out of the case? Try it both ways, but for helping GPU temperatures, using the top fan as an exhaust is likely to help better evacuate heat from the case. So far, the CPU temps are under control. As for the push...

Are you running all your fans at full speed? I'd look at undervolting some of those fans, at least at idle. With an OC'd i7 and a passive GPU dumping heat in the main chamber, I'd say you do need a top fan to help exhaust more air from your system. You might want to experiment with removing the fan ...

Have you read SPCR's reviews of the NH-D14 and the Fractal Design R2 ? The stock Noctua fans at 12V (particularly the 14cm fan) don't appear to be all that quiet, but its a sacrifice you might have to make for a 4Ghz overclock. Anyway, I would go with the following: - CPU fans : the 2 x stock Noctua...

It is (so you can run tricools on high with a 3pin to molex cable on a controller so the internal resistor wont work). But some controllers need a RPM signal (like Scyte's Kaze whatever controller). Your setup is quite interesting ! Using a 1156 matx MB could reduce by ~40€ the cost. Beside that, it's great news for the heatsink clearance :) The mATX motherboard I used in my build is under-size - 194mm x 244mm. A normal mATX motherboard is 244mm x 244mm, which would not fit in the Q07. From ...
