I think I've made my decision. I just sold my i920 gaming system, since I want my life back ;), and I've decided to upgrade my Phenom II x3 720 DAW. It runs fine as a DAW, but I want more processing power for video encoding. A nice gent pointed me towards these comparison of i750, i860 and i920: htt...

Thanks all, Anyone know if -Zerotherm Zen -Scythe Ninja 2 -Scythe Mugen 2 Generally have any clearance problems? I have an ASUS M4A79T Deluxe board. According to the NH-U12P manf. website, it should fit my MB fine, so I'm leaning towards that. I have the Mugen 2 on an Asus M4N72E mobo in an Antec S...

I also do this for better audio quality, with 100 lbs of mass on top the music sounded very calm with more micro details. Mass on top of what affects music coming from where??? Mass on top of transport affects music coming out from speakers. With a passive case with no moving parts I hear the same ...

On my EVGA x58 mobo, I found that I needed to use two 60mm OEM heatsink fans to cool the VREG heatsink to acceptable levels with my OC. I just zip-tied the pair to the heatsink and lost 30C in temps. Runs in the 60C range now OC'd to 3.8, and that's under Prime95.

Cooling Test in Antec Solo

I had some free time, so I thought I'd run some tests to see how well my cooling setup worked in my new DAW. I haven't had a chance to do much audio work with it, mainly just music playback, but I wanted to see how hard I could run it and still stay silent. The system: CPU: AMD Phenom II x3 720 with...

I ran tests on my i920 on two different OC levels with the Megahalems and the Slipstream 1900rpm fan, in both push and push/pull modes, and at 1200rpm, 1600rpm and 1900rpm, using both Intel Burn Test and Prime95. On the 3.3 OC, I found that push/pull was about 3C cooler than push, and 1200rpm was ab...

Re: Painting a Case

I've noticed that some cases are black inside and out. What do you think would be the best way to paint the case inside? Obviously masking off the outside since it has a professional paint or plastic molding. But I'm guessing just simple prime and paint with good spray paint flat or gloss black. Ha...

The Scythe Mugen 2 is just exactly as quiet as the two heatsinks you mentioned, as it's just a hunk of aluminum. It's the fans that make the noise ;) I've got the Mugen 2 on a Phenom II x3 720 with a 10% overclock. I've got a Scythe Slipstream 1200rpm mounted to it, but I can leave that fan off and ...

Howdy! I'd get a case with more airflow if you plan on passive cooling a GPU. The solo will probably suffice for just the CPU heatsink. Good luck! I have an AMD Phenom II x3 720 and Scythe Mugen II with a 10% overclock. Temps are in the 30s with a single Scythe Slipstream at 700rpm. I've got the sa...

I don't have your motherboard, but a Scythe Mugen 2 on an ASUS M4N72-E fits in a Solo. I looked at the Abit board and the mosfet heatsink may have clearance issues with the Mugen. The Megahalems should fit and it's the same height as the Mugen.

Looks good. But I don't think the two intake fans are needed, and not using them could probably help with noise a fair bit. Personally, I would have gone with a MB with integrated graphics for a DAW. Modern MBs can handle anything you'd do on a DAW, graphics cards are really just needed for gaming....
