Re: Case Fan Comparison site

Nice find! These videos provide super high-quality audio samples that tell us how each fan sounds subjectively to our human ears. I think that's a hell of a lot more important for choosing quiet fans than any objective data. Forget about comparing numbers, why not just listen to them for yourselves ...

Re: USB3 at front of Antec P183?

Eh p183v3 has an incomptent implimentation of usb 3 - you need to wire a connector to the back panel ports instead of motherboard. A ridiculously half ass attempt of an p183 revision. That's because the P183 V3 was released before the USB3 internal header standard was finalised/released. Or, if it ...

Re: Best technique to cut case

Even though the fan is virtually silent I can hear the air moving past the fan grill. The whooshing is rather annoying. The grill is not a very thin mesh but is rather thick and probably difficult to cut. I was thinking tin snips but it may be too thick to cut. Does anyone have any recommendations?...

How is air supposed to come in through the front when the front door is closed? Doesn't seem to be enough ventilation holes on the door.

It's not rocket science. :P

Coil it up, or tuck the excess under the HDD cage. :)

If I keep the settings at 100% on the monitor itself and lower settings via software instead(ATI Control Center), the humming does not start.

Hope this helps.

Re: Reducing dust intake on an Antec P183 case

Block off the top fan port (if you're not using it), and use solid covers on the expansion slots. This would force all air to come in through the filtered front, at the cost of reduced airflow.

You could possibly install the fan on the outside of the case? The power cable could go though one of the water-cooling tube grommets.

Re: Nexus or Scythe 120mm fans?

The Scythe S-FLEX fan has more motor buzz noise than the Real Silent, and it becomes more obvious as each fan is slowed down. What you should be choosing between is the Nexus Real Silent and Scythe Slipstream. I've tried all three of these fans (S-FLEX 1600RPM, Slipstream 800RPM, and the Nexus) and ...

Some inverted/reverse-ATX cases off the top of my head:

* Lian Li A05N
* Silverstone TJ08-E (might be micro-ATX though, and it's not available quite yet)

Could always try modding the classic Antec Solo if you can spare the time and effort?

I installed the vinyl tiling, although I have not seen an appreciable difference. From the QuietPC website: The noise from your computer can be broadly classified into two types - mid-to-high frequency "airborne" noise from items such as fans and hard drives, and lower frequency "structure-borne" n...

Taping an 80/92mm fan to the PCI slots would do the same thing at a cheaper price, as long as you have 4-5 expansion slots to spare. I tried this using a 120mm fan: Twist ties, duct tape, blu-tack, and chunk of beer carton :D An 80/92mm fan would fit into the little area where the expansion slots ar...

The Prominent 5 looks almost exactly like a Coolermaster CM690, save for a few mods by Nexus.

Has anyone seen these shipped in a Antec Three Hundred or any other case that used to have the TriCool? Or do they still send out TriCools on new copies of older case designs? I bought an Antec Solo in October last year and it came with the old TriCool fan. And on a related note, the official spec ...

The Mini 180 only does 9.5" cards, that's LESS than a Solo. Keep in mind that the hard drive cage in front of the video card can be removed, which allows for even the longest cards to be installed. If the P180 has ~15" of space with the cage removed, and the Mini P180 is ~1" shorter, then there wou...

If you want to reduce or eliminate vibrations transferred to the case, then hard drive silencing enclosures really need to be decoupled from the case, with foam, or perhaps even suspended with elastic. I'm using a Nexus Drive-A-Way enclosure, and it still vibrates a lot with a drive in it. The enclo...

Get rid of the top hard drive cage, and you'll have 15-16" of video card space to play with.
