Has anyone seen any evidence that they are queiter and by how much? Obviously 5400RPM should be quieter than 7200RPM but I want to see figures. And, obviously, Tomshardware can't be trusted with (many things, but amongst them) noise figures.
I would however take the word of SPCR regulars :)

1000ppd !! Yeah me! Damn - I'm never gonna catch you now - I wonder if there is a version of Linux that'll run on lightbulbs and car stereos?? Lightbulbs don't have a MMU but there's uCLinux (?) which doesn't require a MMU. If I could just get it to work then I could borg most of the lightbulbs in ...

As rusty has said simply try it without the fan. If it acts funky just add a fan to the bracket you already have in there and that should work just fine. I second Rusty's idea to just remove it and see what happens - I had a quick butchers for other AMD761 boards and found one that only has a heats...

HTPC/Desktop case on the cheap..

Hi guys, I was looking for ideas and opinion on available desktop ATX/mATX cases. Basically it's for an HTPC style box - on the cheap - no more than 45GBP (~80USD) for the case - I'm hoping to put an undervolted Mobile Barton in it, but to make it as quiet as possible I was hoping to run it with one...

..so now I'm contemplating getting a 80 GB ATA IV instead. I'm aware that the speed of the ATA IV never was it's strong point, but how will it's reduced speed (compared to my WD 1200JB) be noticable? AFAIK, you cannot access the SMART data or the low-level HDD settings through either a USB or Firewire interface. You have to remove the drive from it's external case and connect it directly to an IDE channel. I can confirm this - I tried very hard to get SMART info from a Cuda V in a USB2 box.. un...

I have a Truepower 380 and my 5V is at 4.89V.. but to tell you the thruth I'm not worried. From memory I think I once read that some mobos don't read the voltage levels properly. Scythe Samurai now available from overclockers.co.uk for circa 30 GBP inc VAT.. not bad me thinks. From what I read in other threads it actually sucks air off the heatsink so it would be good for use with an out blowing duct.

I haven't personally compared but I'm guessing there is no difference. DonP, when you say "fix them," what is it you typically had to do? Just stop and restart them? Do they restart OK following system reboots? David It differs from case to case.. sometimes nothing would help and a re-install of a newer version client would be required. Sometimes a wiping of the queue...
