I haven't tried it on the Shuttle, but I've tried removing the fan on the following boards / specs and using just the stock heatsink with the following results:- 1. Abit KT7 (KT133 chipset), CPU oveclocked from 700 to 950mhz - no problems whatsoever unless the CPU is constantly under load for 8 hour...

Yeah they tend to be bit slow with their reviews ;)

I like the style of their reviews though - not filled with too much technical data nor overly simplistic. And nice big pictures!

I have to say that I have exactly the same problem - and it didn't seem to occur when I first got the Sonata. The sound is more like a really high pitched / high frequency ringing. It's not loud but its noticeable. What's really peculiar is that I hear it when the Sonata is under the desk. When I st...

Need to repaint plastic bezel: What paint / vinyl dye in UK

I would like to repaint my bezel fascia from cream to black to match the rest of my case. However, I am not sure what type of vinyl dye / paint to buy and where to buy it from in the UK. Apparently, metal / wood spray paint doesn't work very well and you need a plastic paint / vinyl dye with a prime...

The Pionner DVD 106-S slot loading DVD/CD player is noisy when spinning. The Liteon CDRW (can't be bothered to find out which model it is) is also pretty noisy. I just wonder if all optical drives are going to make quite a racket?

Personally, I'd go for the 2 drives rather than 3. The reasoning being that 3 drives are more likely to put more of a strain on the 12v PSU rail, which may ramp up the PSU fan. Temp wise there's not much in on a drive by drive basis, but clearly 3 drives are likely to generate more heat than 2 drive...

Unless your PC is experiencing crashes or you're getting unexplained errors, I wouldn't worry about. Otherwise, just get a bigger northbridge heatsink - Zalman sell one for about $8

The Panaflos and Papbst sold by Tekheads aren't the quiet models - they're the ultra loud high performance versions! The Papbst 4412 FGL is the one to go for but its not sold by Tekheads.

You can mount it vertically or horizontally but NEVER mount it on a slope or at an angle - over a period of time you will damage the drive.

I'm not that keen on those black strips running down the sides. The brushed curved aluminum looks nice though. Maybe they could have put a curved door over the drive bays to tidy up the front of the case?

Would love to see Bang & Olufson design a PC case......

Thanks for the link Dukla. The price of the fan isn't too bad but they charge an extortioante £7.00 inc VAT for P&P which makes me think they'e rip off merchants in this department - It cost me less than £2.00 (inc padded Jiffy bag) to send my Enermax fan back to the shop. Yeah, I just noticed that the 5v was mentioned above. The way I connected it was turning the dial up to maximum and then plugging it into the 5v connector that comes with the Zalman GPU fan. It didn't spin up at all (unless you twirl it with your finger and then it spins). The fan is rated from 7v t...

I just wonder if there's a compatibility or error issue between DTemp and the Samsung drive. My Maxtor DM9 runs are 40-45 degrees (no cooling), and my WD a...

The Aopen 350W PSU is very quiet at idle, provided its not under load or reaches hot temperatures. If you don't have alots of peripherals putting drain / load on your PSU, it should be very very quiet.

Bending the air vents on the PSU makes the PSU fan louder?

I have a Antec Sonata PSU. I decided to bend the air vents / slats (the metal bars where the air comes into the PSU) parallel to the direction of the fan because someone suggested it would improve airflow (bigger holes for air to come into the case) and therefore make it cooler. However, this seems ...
