http://www.climatemaster.com/ResGeo.htm No, I'm not kidding. Imagine one of these on a smaller scale for your computer. That would be a nice addition to my overheating apartment, but if I were to spend money on such a thing, I would rather move to a nice 2 bedroom apartment. BTW, i'm curious, has a...

I can't use a regular AC because it wouldn't fit in my window, which is about 1'x3'. Maybe an indoor AC would work, but they're really expensive. I heard that a PC with the side panel off would be unstable because the airflow would be disturbed, creating really hot spots in small areas. Don't know i...

I'm doomed! No silent PC for me (at least for the summer)
U guys should consider yourselves lucky for having even a moderately silent PC. For me, well, I can't even have a silent apartment I built my PC 6 months ago using a SLK3700BQE case, a Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ w/HT, a Radeon 9800 Pro video card, and a Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu CPU cooler running at 12v (yes, 12v...

Questions about a 120mm Aluminum Fan
Does this fan: http://www.xoxide.com/12alcasfan.html have RPM monitoring? Is that fan recommended as a replacement for the Antec fan that came with my SLK3700-BQE? And lastly, can I install it in my SLK3700-BQE case with the same mounting thingies that came with the Antec fan? I don't mind if it's a...

out of curiousity, what black case are you using? I'm using the Antec SLK3700BQE case, which was recommended by SPCR members. I'm very satisfied with it, and now i'm trying to get all the extra components to finish building my PC, that's why I need the CD-RW drive. I'll let you know how the Samsung...

Will my CPU run cooler if I switch to a 2-fan PSU?
I have an SLK3700BQE case and a Pentium 4 3.2 w/ HT processor cooled with a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu HSF (12v) on a D875PBZ motherboard. The case came with one of those Antec silent 350w PSU with one fan. Right now the cpu temperatures while idle are around 38-39 C, and load 49-53. I have an Antec True...

Need a quiet, black, fast CD-RW drive
I need a black CD-RW drive for my system, so if any of you have good suggestions, please let me know. I want a quiet, fast and reliable drive, and i'm willing to spend $30-60.

The BIOS shows an idle temperature of around 42 C, but the Intel Monitor shows around 37-38 C. I don't know which one is accurate. I thought that, since i'm running a Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ processor, these temps were average for this kind of processor. I have an SLK3700-BQE case with the rear fan runnin...

Ok, I just installed windows XP Pro, and also the Intel Active Monitor Software, and it tells me that the CPU temp, while idle is: 37-38 degrees. I ran some of SiSoftware' Sandra Benchmarks, and the temp goes up to 49 degrees, which seems fine to me, but i'll do some more tests anyways. The Zalman f...

Are these temperatures normal for a 3.2 ghz pentium 4?
I just built a new pc with a Pentium 4 processor 3.2 GHZ with HT, on a D875PBZ motherboard and a Zalman 7000 heatsink. I haven't installed any OS yet, but from the BIOS screen, i can see that the idle temp is 46 C. Is this temperature within safe range?

FYI, someone over at SR says you'll hit the bus limit if you RAID 0 two Raptors. This is with the new, non-Beta sample they just tested, and it runs faster (and louder) than the previous 2nd gen sample. I think that is true if you use a RAID controller card, because of the PCI bus limit, but what a...

Re: Comments about a RAID 0 setup
I can't remember from stats class but I think you multiply the odds to get cumulative in-series odds. Like if a single Raptor has an 80% chance of surviving 3 years, Raptors in tandem or in RAID-0 have a .80 * .80 = .64 = 64% chance of surviving 3 years. These are fake numbers but you see how it wo...

Comments about a RAID 0 setup
I want to get a 36GB Raptor with the FDB motor for my new system, but they are not available yet (anybody knows when will they be available??). I'm still not sure if I want to set up a RAID 0 array with 2 of those Raptors (I know what most of you are thinking: I should be banned from SPCR for even m...

The front fan serves only to cool the hard drives and nothing else; the bqe inherently benefits from running negative-pressured. And besides, the front fan needs to be near silent, otherwise your pc won't be very quiet at all. I will have 3 hard drives installed in the BQE: 2 120GB SATA 7200rpm Dri...

I need a pair of quiet 120mm fans
I need two quiet 120mm fans for my new system. My case is an Antec SLK3700-BQE. It comes with a 120mm fan, but there are probably better fans out there, so I need your advice on what fan should I get. (I've seen a lot of recommended fans on these forums, but most of them are 80mm) I need one for the...
