Interesting they even mention the backplate, suggests to me that they're aware that there's an issue. I think the fact that are now selling backplates as separately suggests they're aware it's an issue for some users :P But I'd like to see them using it as the default, which they probably won't do ...

I really don't care what my temps are, as long as it's inaudible and stable. So what if it shortens the lifespan of the components? Even if it were to do it by half, I upgrade everything on a 2 year cycle anyway. I usually just hand down the components to family members where they will have a very e...

Scythe consumer survey

Chance to win a prize yada, yada but most importantly... if everyone votes for backplate/screw as their preferred mounting method they might listen!

I know they have started to sell backplates as an accessory, but hopefully they'll always use them in the future.

Advice about AC/DC power adapter required

OK, this isn't actually PC related but seemed like the most fitting forum... I just got myself a SpeakerCraft SL-One speaker A-B switch for sharing my pair of front speakers between my AV and stereo amps. The switch arrived today but doesn't include a power supply! The requirements are 12V (2...

Thanks for all the replies :) I haven't really been looking to OC, I don't really want to increase power consumption/temps any more. As well as a performance boost I was looking to upgrade to a newer chip for the efficiency increase, too. I was thinking of undervolting me E4300 in the mean time... I...

Duo E8400 or Quad Q9300

I'm looking to upgrade my current E4300 (1.8GHz) to either of the above. I managed to get a hold of a second hand Gigabyte P35 DS3 for £35 and 4GB Geil DDR2 for £30. I later kicked myself when I learned about the E P35 DS3! Are the power reducing features significant? Does it affect the CPU power ...

Laptop optical drive in PC...

I want to put a laptop optical drive in my home PC (Antec P180) because they're so much quieter and don't spin away like they're possessed. The compact Dell Optiplex desktop PC I use in work has one and I've been wanting one in my home PC since I started using it - it's just so quiet. Trying to find...

Perhaps there should be a case manufacturer offering a DIY case option for those that way inclined. Order the parts and panels you need and put the case together yourself. Could this be possible? Personally, I would still buy a ready-made chassis but some people might be interested in such an idea....

When will Antec learn we do not want the power button behind the door?! Are you listening Antec? You kindly put the USB and front audio ports beside the door so why can't this be done with perhaps the most frequently accessed feature: the power button? I would practically never have to open the cas...

There was some benchmarks over at AnandTech or Tom's hardware, i don't remember which, saying that it only improved battery life by a meager 5-10%. I think that's far from pathetic :? Considering how little of a laptop's power a hard drive uses I think a 5-10% battery saving is relatively huge. Imp...

The drive arrived today. 2 things I overlooked (or ignored, putting them to the back of my head) is increased heat over a 2.5" drive (significant) and increased power consumption (not insignificant but not as important, either). Windows Vista 64-bit hasn't arrived yet so I'm unable to set it up in t...

Ordered myself a 500GB Samsung F1 for £45 inc. earlier today. Got an external 2.5" enclosure to put my M60 in, too. Now it just remains to be seen whether this 3.5" drive is quiet enough for me. Or should I go for the WD6400AAKS at £61? I really don't need the extra space so I don't want to pay extra for that but I wouldn't grudge paying the extra if it was likely to be quieter.

The WD3200AAKS is only £44 but I hear it takes a performance hit?

WD5000AACS vs HD502IJ I currently have a 120GB 2.5" Samsung M60 and while I've become accustomed to the low noise I'm slowly filling it and I'm not too happy with the laggy performance. I'm thinking of trying a 3.5" drive again to see if I can live with the noise to reap the performance gains. It w...

Do all Core 2s underclock to the same speed/voltage under SpeedStep when idle?

Hmm, seems like they all go down to 6x so I suppose it depends on the FSB. Would still be interested to know about that VCore, though.

I've tried quite a few 2.5" drives but have stuck with Samsung M60s each time. I wouldn't worry too much about it being single platter. I don't have a fan running in my system and with the case side on (HD suspended and the HD bay is lined with acoustic dampening material) and the PC is inaudible.

I've never had an issue with the door, in fact I was very pleased the the door opens a full 180 degrees. Most cases I see open around 120 degrees.

I've had the case over two years now (I think) and still haven't had the door hinge break so you should be OK.

i'd also remove the front door all together, I find it kind of silly. Oh, and i'd find a way to make it a little more curvy 8) I don't!
