Someone else hard-mounted both drives into the cage, and then suspended the entire cage (rotating it sideways, so that the drives are "standing up" on their thin edge). Maybe that applies to your situation as well? I like that idea because it doesn't involve any irreversible modding (e.g., no cuttin...

Bring this thread back on-topic, has anyone in their years of system-building experience had a tension-mounted heatsink lose its tension (and thus its effectiveness) after many mount/unmount cycles or after many years?

OK, this thread is officially hijacked, but it's mine, so I guess it's OK :? I've unfortunately hoarded a ton of free-after-rebate CDRs (and I don't make that many CDs to begin with), so I don't have a real financial incentive to go buy some CDRWs. I do have another computer with a 3.5" floppy, but ...

Well, my heatsink wasn't hot at all to the touch (barely warm, in fact). More interesting is a very recently-posted download on Soltek's website : "Fixed CPU temperature issue". Unfortunately, my computer is legacy-free (no floppy drive), so I have to figure out a way to flash the BIOS (probably was...

XP-120 loose with A64 chip?

I have an Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 motherboard, A64-3500+ Winchester CPU, and Thermalright XP-120 heatsink. The XP-120 is mounted with a special retention mechanism (doesn't work with the stock RM on the motherboard), and is tension-clipped (not screwed on). Would it be possible for the tension to wear ...

Many NVidia fx5200-based cards with DVI-out are passively-cooled. I have a Chaintech SH5200-128-DVI. Others reported to me are the MSI FX5200-TD128 and Gainward Pro/660 TD/DVI VGFX5200DTL. Beware of the newer cards with 128-bit memory; the manufacturer websites often show "reference" pictures that d...

Linux hddtemp with SP1614C doesn't work

This thread makes a reference to VIA8237 chipsets not reporting SMART data for SATA drives.

Is there anything else I can try under Linux to obtain my SATA drive temperatures?

Antec SLK3000B -- which are the motherboard standoff screws?

The SLK3700BQE manual (what Antec supports points you to if you request an SLK3000B manual) says to insert the "Phillips-head" screws into the brass standoffs. Unfortunately for me, there are two or three different kinds of Phillips-head screws that come with the case, and I think all of them kind o...

Re: Antec SLK3000-B

IMHO, the omission of the PSU on the 3000B is no bargain. Newegg charges exactly the same shipping for both the 3000B and the 3700AMB, so you are only saving $7 ($62 for the 3000B vs $69 for the AMB, plus the AMB often goes on sale with free shipping). While the AMB's power supply isn't terribly qu...

Re: Are 2 fans quieter than 1 blowing the same CFM?

The issue of multiple vs single fans is clear with the Nexus 120. Two of them at 6V move as much air as a single one at 12V, and make 2-3 dBA LESS NOISE!! I think I missed a step somewhere, with this statement that the CFM moved by two Nexi at 6V equals the CFM moved by a single Nexus at 12V. Am I ...

So are you and Cams just running with the front bezel popped off? Isn't that overly ghetto for such an otherwise nice case ?

Or is there actually room between the case and bezel to accommodate the front fan?

I want a black case without a drive door. The 3000B would be my first choice but I am sure the door would drive me nuts. The Antec 1650B seems to be the best Antec case w/o a door. The design standards for PSU's are created by Intel. They introduced that connector for the Pentium 4. Intel doesn't really care if AMD procs need it too. All other manufacturers just follow the naming in the standard. Ah, so this connector is not optional for AMD CPU/mobos and it still needs to be...

Abit AV8 layout + Seasonic Super Silencer

I guess this really should go in a motherboard section :? The Abit AV8 ATXPWR1 and ATX12V1 connectors are located in a rather bad part of the motherboard, IMHO. They are in the back, right between the CPU and the I/O panel, so that the cables will be covering much of the case exhaust fan out-take. T...
