Hmmmm... I don't think the P3 733 is very hot -- but maybe somebody would like to verify this for me. I had a P3 667 which wasn't very hot, and also a P3 750 which wasn't very hot. I'm not sure how the Papst are since I have never heard one. However, I believe people say they have an annoying "click...

I'm thinking you can get 2 nice heatsinks (provided that they fit on your board). Like 2 Thermalright AX7 (they are round $50 CDN/ea) and run Panaflos @ 7V or so on them. Monitoring temperature to make sure its suitable I don't think P3 733 get very hot. I have a p3 667 slot 1 which runs fanless wit...

I forgot to mention I also have a fanless P3 667 slot-1 (133 FSB) chip on an abit VT6X4. Only fan in that machine is the poweruspply fan. The heatsink is not a regular slot-1 though. IT has pretty large fins. I think its one of those Dell supplied ones... But I put a probe on it and it seemed to pea...

I used to run a Celeron 600 fanless. I unplugged the fan, and used the retail HS that came with it. I also undervolted the CPU to 1.4V instead of 1.5V. It was running on a slot kit on an Abit BH6. I ran it for a year 24/7. It was flawless. Its still running right now in another machine (but I have t...

What are your thoughts on using like an AT powersupply (since they are pretty cheap to find.. have a manual switch and turn on without any fancy connections) to power up the drives.. and then using the ATX powersupply to power the board? Might be able to run fanless since it has little draw.

Big bucks? The price-difference between the two is measly 15 dollars, give or take. For that $15 extra you get a fully reusable and much more effektive and I was basing my calculations on the fact that I cannot find a local store here that sells the ZM-80. A ZM17CU is $39 CDN locally = $45 a ...

Thanks for the feedback nate. I think I will keep the 5V panaflo there as well. I'm not sure what the thermal limit of the chip is, but I'm just wondering because the i845 onboard video heatsink gets very hot (hotter than a fanless ZM-CU17) even at idle. So I was always guessing that the Retail HSF ...

Ok, so I took the plunge and bought a ZM-CU17. I put it on my 8500LELE (o/c from 230/230 to 250/250). Just wondering from others who have been doign the same.. does the base of the heatsink get very hot to the touch? Just to be safe I'm pointing a panaflo at 5V on it. But just wondering if my temps ...

Good idea MikeC.

I think then we could also solicit responses from people to see how long they've had their undervolted fan'd powersupplies running for.

Good to hear another fanless 8500 experience (retail too). I also don't wnat to spend the big bucks on a ZM80A (the A version is upcoming and is designed for cards without heatsink mounting holes).

Cheers

I run my 8500LELE overclocked at 250/250. I unscrewed the OEM fan on it. I am using a Panaflo L1A at 12V pointed down on the card from above. It has been running fine for the past 2 months 24/7. I feel the heatsink from time to time and it doesn't really get very hot. It doesn't get nearly as hot as...

I was kind of worried about running a single 5V fan in a powersupply (I am using an SH powersupply). So, instead, I 7V the stock fan that comes with it that is at the bottom (since it is a low profile one and the panaflo won't fit).. then I put a 7V panaflo as exhaust. Its fairly quiet. Not really "...
