Will you use the top plate with the Ninja? I've been looking at that mod as well and it seems like you have to skip the top plate and just use a couple washers on the bolts. Sidewinder Computers actually sells the kit for cheaper without the top plate: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/lgbowiscsp.h...

well, at stock, your heatsink was convex and your ihs was concave. but it (obviously) makes sense to just make them both flat.

i really doubt it, it's going to get pretty hot. i have a barton 2400+ mobile undervolted to 1.350 V @ 133fsbx11multi with the SI-97 and a 120mm Antec fan on it at 5v that idles at 53C and loads at 63C. This is with AS ceramique, a 120mm nexus at 5v as exhaust and a 5v nexus 120mm in my psu above th...

The drives won't spin down if you have any program open/running in the background that is reading from and/or writing to the hard drive. If you can kill those programs you'll have better luck.

Same experience. I've also read of drives (not WD, necessarily) that became quieter over time (just burn in time, I guess), over the matter of weeks and months.

The easiest, cheapest (free) way I know to do this is SpeedFan. I have (well had, now I'm at two) three 120mm fans all wired up to the same motherboard fan heading. When the computer is turned on, all the fans are at max speed. I put a shortcut to Speedfan in the "Startup" folder so now Speedfan sta...

I received a second Samsung 930B (dual monitors, woo hoo!) and can also say that it is silent (at a specific point). I have both at 90 brightness/70 contrast. A lower brightness, such as 80, results in a very noticeable buzz. 90/70 looks great anyway, so it doesnt make a difference.

That's pretty :D I'm not sure which way the Nexus is pointing on the GPU, but either way it might help your video card temps to remove two of the PCI slot covers on the case (the ones right below the card).

It'd be cool to see on real house fans or window fans, then you get to know just how cool you're getting, or have the speed of cars displayed on the tires or something. Gosh, the possibilities are endless ...

Gel packs are very effective at transferring heat, just feel the outside of my aluminum boxes - warm to almost hot. Effective enough to keep my drives, on 24/7, at 40C and under, not 55C. It's important to have good contact between gel pack and metal box, just like between heatsink and CPU. You real...

I think the first thing you should do is upgrade your hot/cold packs. Seriously... you only tried it with two and they're small enough that you could fit 7 to 8 in there. That's missing a lot of surface area to dissipate heat. You want them to completely cover the drive. I've been using my two enclo...

With your gel pack in the aluminum box mod, try fitting as many gel packs as you can in there. You want it really snug and tight fitting. It sounds like you're using a lot of small gel packs -- see if you can get two big gel packs that overlap your drive and sandwhich those in there. One of my gel p...
