Does this have the ATX12 connector on it, and does the motherboard need that kind?

It would be nice if AGP cards could be flipped upside down somehow- its much more convenient for cooling by exhausts, better for ducting, you can have larger cooilng solutions... but then again, it could also get in the way of the NB and CPU. Although this was mentioned in previous threads. It woul...

You will very likely have to vent the closet, otherwise the heat will just build up, unless the walls can somehow absorb and remove the heat. The simplest thing would be to put a small vent at the top part of the door. You would have to cut some opening. And even better, put the same venting at the ...

That would be nice, but I'm not sure it would be simple to find anything flexible that could be used for a heat pipe. Really can't think of anything, but perhaps it's possible. On the other side, it looks like I will be getting a heatpipe sample made by manufacturer. Then I need to machine out the c...

I wonder if there is a card that has equivalent quality to the Terratec above with an external D/A converter, that is also less than $200? You Got PM. As far as that, Midiman has USB based boxes with external D/A converters. Or if you want, use a lower cost card (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, etc...) wi...

I saw this new Viewsonic computer in the store.
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/mediacntr_m2000.htm
It has vents in the bottom front and some on the sides. It has a pedestal built in to raise the box above the table.

The best switching designs I know of are very good at modulating input draw based on output current requirements. As for the audio amplifiers there are both I and V designs in use, depending on application. As far as I'm aware, a switching design can be highly efficient with quality parts. It's a m...

New Iwill small PCs
I just saw a local place selling these Iwill units. They have an external power brick I think. Would be interesting to see the construction inside.

Gandalf, you bring up a good point. I wish PSU manufacturers would take note from the amplifier design world. I'm not an electrical engineer, but there are new switched designs in the amp world that can reach an efficiency of >90% with a very varied load and the demands for the waveform in the ampl...

Hey if you want the 300watt version of this power supply (FSP300-60PN) with a nice case that has a lot of cooling options for not too much money, check this out: http://www.directron.com/3051lb3a.html Unfortunately that case is not that appealing to me. Maybe they offer supply that with other cases.

Basically they offered very little improvement from solid mounting. I noticed this with the grommets, but in my config I have those grommets and the bracket has rubber feet which is then sitting on a mouse pad, so that way it is good. There are 2 drives in the bottom bracket, both Baracuddas too so...

What I think you'll want is to elevate at least 1 inch from the ground. I think you would want the exhaust from the box to not be inline with the exhaust from the PC. This will help with stopping the PC noise from escaping since you remove the direct route for the noise. This white melamine people h...

Most people like Sparkle/Fortron brand power supplies. Despite the low cost they are well built. Antec is another popular quality brand. Sparkle 300W are only around $35. You can try these guys. I'm not sure how expensive they'd be, but you might always try and get a sample from them. http://www.avc.com.tw/Heat%20Pipe/index.html# I'm going to be meeting with their area rep, but I haven't determined the exact configuration I want to use. Probably a block mounting to ...

That's why there is the TMD fan which you can find on the Vantec Aerocooler (or whatever the name is). Not sure if it is that much better, but yeah it would make sense to have the air hit the center. Personally I like the idea of having the air flow from front to back, in a sideways motion to bring ...

Well I picked up 8 pieces the 24x24 melamine. Not too bad, for the price. I just did simple tests like hold a few sheets between me and a slighly noise Antec Smartpower 350 (dual fan) and Panaflo L 80MM. It seems to do something noticeable. I will probably layer 2 or more sheets together in my tests.
