Decided to go with the Lian-Li (maybe ) - although it now appears to be out of stock.. . Anyone suggest a suitable 120mm quiet fan for the exhaust? Last time I looked was a couple of years ago, and slipstream fans were recommended. I don't know anything about the stock fans. Also, any suggesti...

Yeh the q08 is a little bit big (its 279mm wide!!) considering, I am also considering the CFI as well but I am finding it difficult to get decent pictures of the mounting mechanism Edit: Just found this http://www.e-itx.com/cfi-a7879-hdd-tray.html  I have found the Gigabyte D510 board (with 4 ...

Any system that will have multiple 3.5" HDDs is not a great candidate for picoPSU -- there's a lot of surge current at turn-on. You're generally better off with a high efficiency ATX or STF psu -- perhaps one of the Dell 250-300W models, modded to fit whatever case... How much surge are we talking?...

Re: dunno
WS green drives have several parameters that affect noise and performance. For me, the most critical was head parking AKA Load_Cycle. Other parameters that are relevant are standby and acoustic management. HTH I take it then I can disable LLC - stick it in my NAS and the drives will be able to go i...

Mini-ITX NAS build
I have decided to build a Intel Atom Mini-ITX NAS build. Although most of the topics are out of date on performance of a D510/Gigabit NAS. I have a few questions regarding the components. Quiet and low power are my aims. It is initially going to use 2 x 2 TB 3.5" WDEARS HDDs but I would like to expa...

Thanks for the two reviews. I am really looking for information on which is simply the quietest of the drives - there are some specs (DBA) but I don't know in this review if that is manufacturer specced or not. According to that site, the WD is quieter by 2 DB - but how that fares in the real world ...

I found a german review fot the hdd: http://www.tech-review.de/include.php?path=content/content.php&contentid=8559 Seems that it is fast (4 5400 u/min) and quiet. Which one is quieter? Does the review say? The google translator says the F3 is "calm" but the WD20EADS is "for a silent machine most li...

Yes. If you can click Add to Cart, it's in stock. Thanks, thats good news. Now just have to wait for someone in the UK to get stock. As well as hope it doesn't suffer from any problems like the WD sticky up above. I have a Samsung F1 1TB at the moment (as a data drive) and it is quite fast and quie...

Are you using them in SATA-II/NCQ mode? The same thing happened to me. The boot drive doesn't show anything in HD Tune regarding serial number etc. when in this mode. In SATA-I mode it reports everything. Speedfan continues to work fine so I guess its a HD Tune bug. OR a bug with the SATA driver inc...

I've moved my SATA drive to the JMicron controller (in IDE mode) on my Gigabyte and moved my HDDs to SATA-II/NCQ mode on the Intel. I've updated the firmware on the LG to YL03. Installed AnyDVD HD and PowerDVD 8 (upgraded from 7). Now it would seem my LG is now quiet! I can hear it spin up when the ...

What version of Matrix Storage Manager did you use? Usually when I install Vista 64 I do not need drivers on install, but later when I install this , it'll say it's older than what's currently installed. I say overwrite the newer ones and things like eSATA start working. Version: 7.8.0.1012 Did you...

I can't get these things to go into UDMA-7 Mode. I've used ES Tool are it says max mode is Mode 7 which is OK. I've got AHCI set in the BIOS and I have reinstalled Windows Vista SP1 64-Bit. It didn't ask for any drivers and detected the drives fine. I've then installed the Intel Chipset Driver which...

Eeeffff... just ordered two of these drives from e-buyer. Most or all hard-drives I've bought before have come packed in a cardboard boxes with oodles of foam. These came in what can only be described as a glorified jiffy bag. The drives themselves are inside one of the usual clear plastic protecti...

Sorry, I didn't realize the GBP is so cheap these days. It free falled last months, a bit more and it's on parity with the Eur. However, not sure if it's a deal any more, regardless of price. It is if you live in the UK :D Got my 1TB drive today. I've been using the 320 for a while as my boot drive...
