Argh. I knew the problem was going to be finding a good motherboard....I spent all last night poking around the net looking for a good one, but all I came across was complete garbage. Sounds like I'm going to have to check on ebay.... at stock speeds, have you tried dropping the core voltage for a r...

Check out Soltek Motherboards. I have an SL-75DRV4 (KT266A chipset) that lets me undervolt the hell out of any processor. I know the XP1500+ I have in there is undervolted quite a bit (don't know the exact amount, almost all XP's will run fine undervolted quite a bit), and the board is rock solid. I...

Questions about Celeron 1.1

I'd like to get a celeron 1.1, but I have a few questions: 1. Likelyhood of running fanless? 2. What motherboard? I need it to OC, has to have AGP - don't need a micro atx format. 3. How successful have people here been at running a 133 bus? I'd like to OC it to 133 mhz bus. 4. I don't want to spend...

I have a P2-400 that I actually bought from micron that's been running for the last four years fanless, sometimes at full load (or close) for days on end. It has a really hefty looking heatsink that came stock, but sometimes under heavy load it'll get fairly warm. I'd say that a P2-300 will work jus...

I have a geforce4 EVGA card that's hidiously noisy. It's by far louder than the CPU (XP 1500+ with an 80mm low RPM fan) and the PS. All in all, if you want a quiet video card, count on buying either a card with no fan: Matrox G550/450/whatever ATI 7500 Nivida Geforce4 MX ...or modding a card with th...

The CPU already has a huge heatsink that's pretty good quality, so....not too worried. At load, it can get kind of hot, but normally it seems to be pretty cool. I'll look into the q-tech. Looks nice. =) I dunno about the Matrox - I absolutly love the way Matrox cards look on a good monitor, but the ...

Will this be quiet?

Well, I'm getting close to setting up a (mostly)-silent pc for HTPC and general use purposes (surfing net, writing word docs, doing light coding, etc), and here's what I'm looking at: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- P2-400 (fanless - been running like that f...

Yep, I'd agree with most people here that your best bet is to get some really nice heatsinks and some low RPM 80mm fans to cool them. Also, you don't even need the fan on the northbridge - those are largely cosmetic and actually serve no purpose (generally speaking) whatsoever. I know I've been runn...

Try this site: http://www.overclockers.com They have a huge amount of information on water cooling rigs. If you're going to just get a pre-built kit, I'd go with the Innovatek (sp?) kit - I know that kit was also reviewed on Tomshardware, but that site is sort of marginal in really planning it out a...

Another vote for the Soltek - I have an SL-75DRV4 that has the best over/under-clocking features of any motherboard I've ever owned. I suspect the 75DRV5 is also in the same category.

Oh yeah - tear off the fan that comes with it - you don't need it. :D

The Lite-on LTD-163 is pretty much completely silent during DVD operation (it's a DVD drive) - I can't hear it over my hard drive and PS, anyways (which are both relatively quiet). By default, the drive runs at 1x when playing back DVD movies (how they did that, I don't know). During regular use, ho...

Quick question: are you running at stock speed? (IE: 1600 mhz?) Other than that, does anyone else wonder why the ship athlons with such a high core voltage? The first thing I did when I got my 1500+ was drop the core voltage to 1.64 where it ran perfectly stable and anywhere from 7 to 10 C cooler. I...

I totally agree with other posters - if you're not interested in gaming, a Matrox card is the ONLY way to go. Hell, I have an old G200 card (I think that's what it's called - it's an old 4-meg Matrox card) that STILL has better looking 2d than any other card in the house, including Voodoo cards, Nvi...

It seems to run DVD's that way automatically. All I know is it's definetly very quiet - my hard drive (WD1200JB) makes more noise than the DVD player during operation. Again, during file transfer or high rotation speed, the drive is pretty noisy, but during cd or dvd usage, it's very quiet. I think ...

I have a Lite-on LTD-163 that's pretty much completely silent during DVD operation (runs a 1X) - it's the primary reason I got it. During boot up/high speed useage it's pretty noisy though. I don't know if the top speed can be throttled down; the only time it really bothers me is when I'm trying to ...

I have an aluminum chilli professional that I really, really like - it's horrible to work with, but oh-so-slick. :D

That, and I can actually cram a lot of crap in there, so......yeah. The MicroATX version (in gun-metal grey, no less) with one of those abit nforce boards would be sweet.
